Villiers bus accident leaves three dead three injured

Three people have tragically died while three were injured, two critically so, after a bus and two cars collided on the N3 in Villiers about twenty kilometres from the Wilge plaza  on the south bound.  Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and the provincial services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the car trapped under the bus with some of the occupants still trapped in the wreckage, a second vehicle was also involved in the accident but the occupants was uninjured. After triaging emergency services found that two people sustained critical injuries while one escaped with minor injuries. What appears to be two adults and a child that had died is still trapped in the wreckage under the bus and emergency workers are fervently working to extricate them” Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Further updates will follow as soon as the scene has been cleared. One lane on the south bound has been close and traffic on the north bound is traveling very slowly.

Ten-year-old boy saved from the surf


Durban – A ten-year-old boy had a close shave after a strong rip current swept him out beyond the shore break while swimming near Blythedale on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast on Sunday.

The floundering boy was saved by other holidaymakers who launched a canoe and pulled him to shore.

Officials blame each other for clinic’s missing chairs

White River – The Mpumalanga department of health and the Mbombela local municipality have blamed each other for missing chairs that have left patients with sore feet at a local clinic.

Health spokesperson Dumisane Malamule said the chairs at the White River Clinic were removed by municipal officials three months ago.

NPA confirms arrest of cop killer suspect


Durban – The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed on Monday that a team of police officers had travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to arrest a suspect linked to the slaying of policemen last week.

This came as top police brass closed ranks, with spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza insisting that reports of any arrest were patently false.

High volumes of traffic on major Gauteng routes


Johannesburg – Major routes in to Gauteng were extremely busy on Monday as the long weekend was drawing to an end, the Road Traffic Management Corporation said.

Spokesperson Simon Zwane said that between 13:30 and 14:30, around 1 700 vehicles had come into the province from the N3.

Malema vows to rebuild donated Nkandla house


Nkandla – A house the EFF donated to a woman living in Nkandla before last year’s elections will have to be demolished because of poor workmanship, party leader Julius Malema said on Monday.

Malema has conceded that the house, on the fringes of President Jacob Zuma’s sprawling homestead in rural KwaZulu-Natal, is on the verge of collapse because of shoddy construction.

Johannesburg – A 15-year-old Cape Town girl who ran away from home to join the Islamic State was taken off a flight about to leave the city, State Security Minister David Mahlobo said on Monday.

Her relatives contacted authorities after she disappeared from her parent’s home on Sunday morning.

Justice minister fails to meet Nxasana inquiry deadline


Johannesburg – Justice Minister Michael Masutha has failed to meet a deadline to make submissions to the inquiry into National Director of Public Prosecutions Mxolisi Nxasana’s fitness to hold office, the DA said on Monday.

“The minister was required to file his submissions by March 27 2015” and “has to date not filed his submissions”, Democratic Alliance MP Glynnis Breytenbach said in a statement.

Two dead, five injured in horrible accident

An accident along Great North Road near Louisa Road in Brentwood Park, Benoni left two people dead and five people injured last night.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of two vehicles following a side impact accident.

“Upon assessment of the occupants, paramedics found that a man and woman travelling in the one vehicle tragically lost their lives during the crash. From the other vehicle, they found that one person sustained serious injuries and four people sustained moderate injuries during the accident” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

Steinmann said all the injured patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the crash and preceding events are unknown and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Traffic was obstructed as a result of the accident.

One died, two injured in piled-up accident

Kimberley police are investigating cases of reckless, negligent and culpable homicide after five vehicles were involved in an accident on the corner of Pniel and Galeshewe Road, opposite old Lerick in Kimberley.

Northern Cape ppolice said at about 04:45 this morning (Monday, 06 April 2015) two vehicles, a Toyota Tazz and Toyota Quantum which were travelling on Pniel Road collided.

“After the accident the driver of the Toyota Quantum ran away on foot from the accident scene, leaving the Quantum in the middle of the road. Two female passengers from the Toyota Tazz and the driver sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment” lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said.

He said while on the accident scene on Pniel and Galeshewe Road, another accident involving three vehicle happened.

“It is alleged that a BMW drove into the back of a Jeep which was stationed on the road due to the accident involving Toyota Quantum and Toyota Tazz. In the meantime both drivers of the BMW and Jeep were standing outside their vehicles trying to ascertain the damages, and then a VW Polo Classic also drove into the back of a BMW” Tawana said.

The driver of a VW Polo Classic died at the hospital, due to the impact of the accident and the injuries he sustained during the accident.

Both occupants of the BMW and Jeep were also taken to hospital to receive medical treatment. 

The investigation continues.
