North West three get 15 years for murder

Mahikeng – Three men were sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each for murder and kidnapping by the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court, North West police said on Tuesday.

Tshepo Bethel Maputo, 26, Jacob Obakeng Lesele, 27, and Lawrence Olebogeng Dlamini, 28 were sentenced on Thursday for the crimes committed in 2013, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

“The accused were involved in a fight with a 21-year-old victim at a liquor outlet in Phokeng.”

They accused the victim of trying to steal a sound system from their car.

“The victim was put inside the boot of a car and taken to Kanana dam where he was assaulted. He was left dead on the banks of the dam.”

The court declared the men unfit to possess a firearm.

North West police commissioner Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo welcomed the sentence.

Roodepoort Horizon View pedestrian accident leaves man critical

Roodepoort- A thirty-three-year-old man was critically injured following a pedestrian accident on Ontdekkers Road in Horizon View, Roodepoort this morning. Exact detail surrounding the cause of the pedestrian accident and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the roadway. Upon assessment of the injured man, paramedics found that the man had sustained critical injuries after he was knocked over by a vehicle” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.

The critically injured man was treated at the scene and rushed to hospital, under the care of an advance life support paramedic, for the urgent medical care he required.
