Ottosdal- North West MEC for Social Development Fenny Gaolaolwe on Thursday visited a bereaved family in Ottosdal to offer her condolences following the death of a child who alleged to have eaten a chicken meat dumped by a farmer.
According to the family member who spoke on condition of anonymity Lebogang Machuisa 10, died on Friday, and a number of children who also ate the chicken meat allegedly dumped near the local crèche by the farmer were treated at a clinic for food poisoning.
After being taken to the clinic, six of the children were transferred to the Klerksdorp Hospital.
Keitumetse Mathiba(3) and Sandile Mpisa(7) were subsequently discharged. Kelebogile Machuisa, 8, and Eva Machuisa(11) were still being treated for abdominal cramps and diarrhoea. Johannes Medupe(13) and Aaron Lebusa(7) were recovering and would be sent home soon.
During her visit to the family yesterday, Gaolaolwe offered her heartfelt condolences and brought social relief of distress aid in the form of groceries for the burial.
Since the news broke about this gruesome incident , Gaolaolwe said she had deployed social workers to compile a home circumstance report and offer traumatic counselling and support to the family.
“I have also request the Tswaing local municipality to offer a grave for free to the family,” Gaolaolwe said, adding that deceased family should allow the law to take its course.
The deceased will be buried on Saturday at Letsopa cemetery.
