Department to host District wide Tourism Engagement Sessions
The North West Department of tourism will in the next two months host four District Wide Tourism Engagement Sessions which will seek to foster integrated tourism planning and development across all spheres of Government.
These engagement sessions will also be used as a platform for enhancing the department’s stakeholder relations by establishing strong partnership between Government and Private sector in managing and developing tourism in the Province.
These sessions will be held as follows:

Blackout causes critical injury
Carletonville- A man in his forties was critically injured after a collision occurred today on the P111 about six kilometres from Carletonville.
“The injured man was driving when he experienced a blackout. He lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch on the side of the road. His vehicle was written off” ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the man critically injured in a confused state. ER24 Paramedics transported him to Carletonville Hospital for urgent treatment.

‘Taung man hangs self’

TAUNG- North West police are investigating a case of inquest after a 39 year-old man was found hanged at his house in Matolong village, near Taung on Tuesday.
Tuelo Serei(39) allegedly hanged himself on Tuesday and the police say the reasons behind his decision to commit suicide were unknown.
“The police are investigating a case of inquest after a 39 year-old man was found hanged at his house in Matolong village, near Taung. An inquest case was launched and police investigation continues” sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said.
Eyewitness, Bogosibotlile Chabe said he arrived this morning at Serei’s house and found the door burglar not locked.
“It was around 07:00am in the morning when I visited Serei’s house. I found the door burglar not locked. I called him out with no avails, and I was shocked when I saw his lifeless body suspended from the roof rafters” Chabe said.
Serei was allegedly faced with a criminal charges as a witness and according to some locals, he might be succumbed to the case pressure.
The Serei family refused to comment regarding their son’s death as they say they are still in shock.

Dryharts community left stranded after the contractor didn’t pitch

DRYHARTS- Some community members who expected the contractor to install electricity in their homes were left stranded after Mosumpela did not show up.
Residents from Lohatlheng, Pompong and Dryharts Section say they believe they were taken for a ride after the committee member, Lawrence Serame allegedly promised them that the electricity will be installed on Monday at their homes.
According to one of the residents who said he has been staying at Lohatlheng for more than 16 years without electricity, he alleged everytime when the new contractor arrived, they were overlooked.
“We’re sick and tired of the games played here. We were promised Heaven and Earth by our leaders, but nothing they said came forth. What we need is electricity only, but it is very difficult for them to offer us that” Tshenyego Pudi said.
Lawrence Serame, who is a committee leader said the contractor was suppose to be at work on Monday, but maybe material is derailing him.
“The community must not feel hard done as the contractor said he will be at work on Monday or Tuesday. He said it will all depend on materials he ordered” Serame said.
The residents in those sections, were allegedly ignored by the contractor when installing electricity in that area.
Greater Taung Municipality spokesperson, Charity McCord told our crew that the electricity backlog experienced in the area will be dealt with swiftly by Eskom.
“All backlog experienced at Dryharts and other areas, will be addressed soon. Eskom and the department of Energy came to a conclusion in addressing that” McCord said.

Two knives and dagga found at Taung school amid police search

Pudimoe SAPS together with Vryburg K9 dog unit teamed up and visited schools around Pudimoe Police Station’s precinct as part of Safer Schools project.
Pudimoe police spokesperson, Sergeant Tebogo Thebe said the initiative of SAPS aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of learners across the country and highlights pertinent issues, such as bullying, drug and alcohol consumption among learners, sexual violence and other social ills that permeate society.
“The Station used adopt a cop model to identify schools which are known to have experienced problems of learners bringing undesirable objects to school, after discussions with the concerned school’s management teams certain classes were identified” Thebe said.
The first search took place on Thursday at Thapama High School in Matlapaneng Village and four classes of Grade 10 learners were searched with an approximate number of two hundred and thirty learners (230).
The search produced no results, but upon searching the grounds of the school, 2 knives and a small bag of dagga were found in the school grounds arousing suspicion that learners threw them out of the window when they noticed Police’s presence.
In closing address Pudimoe SAPS’s Vispol Head Capt Mohule warned learners that school’s surprise visits are going to be regular to try and curb school based violence particularly since police found knives on the school grounds.
He further warned that in future Dangerous Weapons Act will be used to charge those found with such weapons irrespective whether one is a learner or not.
The operation continued at other schools namely Pudimoe High School where approximately three hundred and fifty (350) learners were searched, and a similar number was also searched at Maatla High School.
“Learners at both schools were frightened at first, but later thanked the police for their presence and requested that such operations should be routine since it makes them feel safe at their schools” he said.
After the search, police met with school’s safety teams with a view of strengthening relations to ensure that schools remain a place of learning and that bad elements are removed from schools forever.

‘Family inconsolable at Greater Taung Municipality over RDP house’

TAUNG- THE family of Matete in Veertien village, near Taung said the Greater Taung Municipality overlooked them when they allocated RDP houses even though they applied.
Kelebileemang Annah Matete(56) who stays in a shack said she applied for a RDP house and she never received it.
“We were ten when we applied for RDP houses back in 2012. It’s been three years trying to get a response from the Greater Taung municipality, but my attempt was futile. All those I applied with, they received their houses except me” Matete said.
According to Matete, her woes started when the councillor informed her that her copy of I’d is missing in her papers.
“I went to the municipal offices several times, but I never received help. The shack we staying in sometimes leaks when is rainy” she outlines.
However the Greater Taung municipality spokeswoman Charity McCord said the municipality is not responsible for building RDP houses in the area.
“We are really sorry to hear what transpired, but we would like to advise Annah Matete to consult North West Human Settlements department to table her grievances” McCord said.
Motlotlegi Tsomakae(63) who is Matete’s boyfriend said he lost hope after they went to ask help at Greater Taung municipality.
“I met with almost everyone at the municipality, including Mayor Kaone Lobelo. He once promised to call me, but until now. They should’ve told us so before playing hide and seek game” stressed Tsomakae.
