De Lille slammed for team changes


Cape Town – Mayor Patricia de Lille has reshuffled her top political team just days before the first full council meeting of the year, making changes to the health and human settlements portfolios.

Benedicta van Minnen, ward councillor for the Helderberg, is the new mayoral committee member for human settlements, with immediate effect, while Siyabulela Mamkeli will take over her portfolio as the mayoral committee member for health.

Mystery of R61m hospital bus tender


Durban – A tender for four mobile clinics in KwaZulu-Natal will end up costing taxpayers a “crazy” R61 million – and only two of the units have been delivered.

Of that amount, R52m is being spent on leasing a truck and trailer that has a standard X-ray machine, which at the end of the three-year lease, the department will not even own.

Department to host District wide Tourism Engagement Sessions

The North West Department of tourism will in the next two months host four District Wide Tourism Engagement Sessions which will seek to foster integrated tourism planning and development across all spheres of Government.

These engagement sessions will also be used as a platform for enhancing the department’s stakeholder relations by establishing strong partnership between Government and Private sector in managing and developing tourism in the Province.

These sessions will be held as follows:

Blackout causes critical injury


Blackout causes critical injury

Carletonville- A man in his forties was critically injured after a collision occurred today on the P111 about six kilometres from Carletonville.

“The injured man was driving when he experienced a blackout. He lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch on the side of the road. His vehicle was written off” ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the man critically injured in a confused state. ER24 Paramedics transported him to Carletonville Hospital for urgent treatment.

‘Taung man hangs self’

TAUNG- North West police are investigating a case of inquest after a 39 year-old man was found hanged at his house in Matolong village, near Taung on Tuesday.

Tuelo Serei(39) allegedly hanged himself on Tuesday and the police say the reasons behind his decision to commit suicide were unknown.

“The police are investigating a case of inquest after a 39 year-old man was found hanged at his house in Matolong village, near Taung. An inquest case was launched and police investigation continues” sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said.

Eyewitness, Bogosibotlile Chabe said he arrived this morning at Serei’s house and found the door burglar not locked.

“It was around 07:00am in the morning when I visited Serei’s house. I found the door burglar not locked. I called him out with no avails, and I was shocked when I saw his lifeless body suspended from the roof rafters” Chabe said.

Serei was allegedly faced with a criminal charges as a witness and according to some locals, he might be succumbed to the case pressure.

The Serei family refused to comment regarding their son’s death as they say they are still in shock.
