Johannesburg – A man was killed and eight others were injured when a bakkie they were travelling in was hit by a bus in Lehae, near Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Saturday.

The man’s body was found on the side of Primrose drive. He had succumbed to his injuries, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“It is believed the man was ejected from the bakkie in the collision.”

The driver of the bus apparently lost control of his vehicle, causing it to rear-end the bakkie. He then fled the scene.

The deceased and the eight others were all travelling in the bakkie, Meiring said.

The injured were treated on the scene before being taken to Baragwanath hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident was unclear.
