STILFONTEIN Magistrate Court in Klerksdorp sentenced four accused who were implicated in conspirancy of killing Dr Kenneth Kaunda District General-Secretary Mosimaneotsile David Chika who was shot dead in a point blank at his house’s driveway in Alabama, near Klerksdorp back in 14 December 2012.
The conviction followed the marathon trial that began on Thursday, 6 October 2014 until Wednesday, 26 November 2014.
Out of the six accused, four of them; Jeffrey Letuka, William Malefo, Happy Kadi and Sehlangu Sikhakhane were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and eight years imprisonment for conspiracy to murder.
Economic Freedom Fighters’ Mp in the North West Papiki Babuile was sentenced to eight years for conspiracy to commit murder and 12 years imprisonment for murder, while Joseph Molebatsi got eight years for conspiracy to commit murder and 15 years imprisonment for murder.
The court acquitted Sehlangu Sikhakhane on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo welcomed the sentencing of the accused in the case of Mosimaneotsile David Chika to life imprisonment by the North Gauteng High Court sitting in Stilfontein on Wednesday.
“We would like to commend the entire criminal justice system team members that were involved in the case for ensuring that the accused get hefty sentences. This will definitely send a clear message that crime does not pay and that the police will not hesitate to deal with any person who transgresses the law”, said Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo.
Former North West Local Government MEC China Dodovu was aquitted by court last week because there was no evidence that link him with Chika’s assassination.
