Taung- North West police made a breakthrough in their investigations over a rape, kidnapping and murder case of Ephraim Moipating Thejane on Thursday.
In the early hours of today, gun shots were heard in Extension 6 in Taung CBD when Taung police cornered a suspect in his shack.
A suspect was linked to a murder case of Thejane.
Police allegedly knocked at the suspect’ shack, but he retaliated.
He allegedly shot at the police and the police returned the favour.
The suspect was shot dead in his shack and even though police could not confirm the reports, it is alleged that Thejane’s wallet and his bank cards were recovered from the suspect.
Thejane was kidnapped while sleeping at his house in Depot village, near Taung last week Friday.
He was forced into his Ford Bantam with his girlfriend and the suspects fled with them. The deceased’s girlfriend was raped and dropped-off at Dryharts village where she was taken to a local clinic by members of community after she screamed for help.
She launched a case of rape and kidnapping at Pudumoe Police Station, where it was transferred to Taung Police Station.
Thejane’s body was found by police on Tuesday at the river in Matolong village with a bullet wound in his head.
Police investigations continue.
