Johannesburg – A 12-year-old boy was abducted in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, police said on Saturday.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said the boy was abducted on Friday afternoon when he returned home from school.

“A person later called the parents and demanded thousands of rand. The whereabouts of the boy are still unknown,” he said.

Police were investigating.
