SAPS NORTHERN CAPE FUNCTIONAL FITNESS TEAM BRINGS HOME GOLD

Northern Cape Police Provincial Functional Fitness team participated in the SAPS National Championships for functional fitness that was held in Bloemfontein between 19 and 24 October 2014.

The Northern Cape team consisted of 24 members and competed against teams from the other provinces as well as a team from the SAPS head office.

Participants were expected to compete in an obstacle course consisting of 19 obstacles for men and 15 obstacles for women.

The obstacles were set up on a 500m length track and members of different age and weight categories participated for the fastest time.

“The Northern Cape team won 14 gold medals,6 silver and 4 bronze medals. Constable Selogile Kwes was also selected to represent the SAPS National team which will be participating against the SANDF National Team during 2015” lieutenant Sergio Kock said.

The Northern Cape Coach Warrant Officer Cecil Visagie was also selected to coach the SAPS National Team. The Northern Cape male relay team also took first place in the overall relay event.

Functional fitness is aimed at assisting police officials to develop and maintain their fitness and health, thus enabling and encouraging them to live healthy lifestyles.

Kock said overall work performance is also enhanced through good health and fitness.
