REWARD IN MEYIWA KILLING INCREASED TO R250 000

Cape Town – Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega has confirmed that the reward for an arrest in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa has been increased to R250 000.

Originally an amount of R150 000 was mentioned as the reward, but Phiyega on Monday upped that figure to R250 000 when addressing the media.

Phiyega also provided information of the suspects.

“Two are believed to be in late twenties, one in early thirties,” Phiyega said.

The 27-year-old Orlando Pirates goalkeeper died yesterday after suffering a single shot through the chest at the home of girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, an actress and singer, in the township of Vosloorus, Gauteng.

“Two guys entered the house and demanded mobile phones, money and other valuables,” provincial community safety official Sizakele Nkosi-Malubane said today.

“Senzo tried to protect Kelly because one of the men had a gun pointed towards her.”

Police yesterday said two men entered Khumalo’s house at about 8pm. A third waited outside the house and all three fled immediately after the shooting.

Meyiwa was declared dead on arrival at hospital, the police added.
