Stella vehicle registering authority brings a sigh of relief to the local community

Stella- Communities of Stella and the neighboring villages will no longer travel long distances to access vehicle licensing services.

This follows the official opening of the Stella Registering Authority offices by the North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Gaoage Molapisi.

Handing over the office to the Naledi Local Municipality Executive Mayor Langa Modise, MEC Molapisi said the communities of Stella, Madibogo and Setlagole will no longer travel between 40 and 140 kilometers to access the services.

“This office has brought a sigh of relief to our motorists, it has saved them petrol and time as they will be accessing services just around the corner.

The office will ensure the effective and efficient renewal of motor vehicle licenses; registration of new vehicles; de-registration of stolen and recovered vehicles or permanently unfit for use; notifications of changes in respect of vehicle particulars,” said Molapisi.

He said the department will continue ensuring that communities have access to various services where they live.

Motorists and vehicle owners in Stella have been registering and renewing their disc’s at the Vryburg, Delareyville and Mahikeng registering authorities.

More than 987 transactions were concluded in the office since its operation in a period of three months.

“This clearly shows that the establishment of this licensing centre was in line with the Batho Pele Principles which advocates that services must be made easily accessible to the people,” said MEC Molapisi.

The department intends to extend the services and introduce the renewal of driving licenses, booking for learners’ license testing and conducting of learners’ license classes at the centre in future.

Johannesburg- Football Federations from across the world have joined millions around the globe in paying tribute to the late Senzo Meyiwa.

The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain lost his life when he was shot on Sunday night (26 October 2014) in Vosloorus, East of Johannesburg.

The Football Federations of Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Jordan, Sao Tome e Principe among others are the latest to convey their condolences to the Meyiwa family, his club Orlando Pirates, the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the football family.

Egyptian club Al Ahly, which defeated Orlando Pirates in the final of the 2013 CAF Champions League with Senzo in goals, also paid tribute to the fallen hero of South Africa football.

“I am writing to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences over the unexexpected loss of your first team captain Senzo Meyiwa. Death is always a time of great sorrow, many of us here knew him personally and he will be missed. On behalf of everyone at Al Ahly, I would like to forward our deep sadness for the tragic loss of such a highly admired player. Our deepest condolences,” added Alan Abdel-Sadek, Football Director of Al Ahly.

In their tribute, the NFF called on the authorities to bring the killers to book.

“It was with utter shock and sense of sadness and sorrow that we learnt of the dastardly murder of the Captain of the Senior Men’s National Football Team of South Africa. The Nigerian Football Federation and the entire Nigeria football family is in deep mourning over the killing of the Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana number one goalkeeper who still had his life ahead of him. The snuffing out of the life of one of the glowing stars of South African football is as tragic as is unfortunate and we hope and pray that the security agencies will bring the perpetrators to justice in quick time,” said Musa Amadu, General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF added that Senzo left a mark in South African football.
“Senzo’s killing has come at a time that Bafana Bafana are in good standing to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and a time when South African football at senior level is looking to be on a true revival path. This makes his tragic departure much more painful,” added Amadu.

“Our solace is that Senzo left his footprints in the sands of time even at the young age of 27 and we pray that he will find mercy in the eyes of the Almighty God for eternal rest. We also pray that God will grant the immediate family, the friends he left behind and the South African football family the fortitude to bear the big loss.”

Others described Senzo as a gentleman.

The murder of celebrities and high-profile people such as Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa often galvanises the public to help prevent crime, an analyst said.

“Anywhere in the world, far more attention would be given to the murder of the captain of a high profile national sports team than a person who has a low public profile,” Institute for Security Studies governance, crime, and justice division head Gareth Newham said.

Meyiwa terrified in last minutes – witness

Johannesburg – Senzo Meyiwa’s last minutes were marked by agony and terror, says a neighbour who had run to Kelly Khumalo’s home, after he heard gunshots.

According to Mbuyiselwa Kula, who lives next door to Khumalo, a singer and Meyiwa’s girlfriend, the soccer star was found lying on her dining room floor with a gunshot wound.

Kula told the Times that Meyiwa looked frightened and tried to say something but those trying to help him had to remain calm.

Another neighbour says Meyiwa’s body was already limp when they carried him to his car outside Khumalo’s Vosloorus, East Rand, home to rush him to hospital.

It is hoped that forensic experts will be able to recover DNA from a beanie and glove taken from one of the attackers.

Gauteng police say rumours suggesting the murder was a hit are untrue.

“We do not have evidence which suggests that this was a contract killing or a hit on Mr Meyiwa,” Sapa reports Major General Norman Taioe as telling reporters in Johannesburg on Monday.

“There was no gun aimed specifically at him.”

However, Gauteng head of detectives Major-General Tebello Mosikili told The Star that police were taking every possible lead and motive seriously.

Mosikili confirmed to the newspaper that IT experts were looking at an Instagram post claiming that Khumalo’s sister had been fighting with her boyfriend when Meyiwa tried to intervene and the boyfriend allegedly shot him.

The Star says the Crimestop line had also received a call from someone alleging that Meyiwa did not die during a robbery.
