Zeerust- Deputy Minister of Social Development Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu will on Tuesday commemorate National Albinism Day at Dinokana in Ramotshere-Moiloa local municipality, North West.
Bogopane-Zulu will also launch Ikitsise registration and engage in dialogues with people with albinism.
Bogopane-Zulu’s office said, persons with albinism continue to experience significant levels of prejudice, discrimination and marginalization by society 20 years after freedom, as they are still subjected to mythical beliefs, ritual killings, human trafficking, derogatory language, labelling and isolation by society. This marginalisation limits their social integration and participation into mainstream society due to harmful cultural practices and beliefs.
“North West MEC, Fenny Gaololwe of Social Development and MEC Tebogo Modise of Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs will grace the occasion tomorrow” North West Social Development spokesperson Petrus Siko said.
