Jan Kempdorp- Northern Cape police are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery after a man was allegedly bludgeoned to death in an apparent armed robbery, Lieutenant Donald Mdhluli said.

“At around 02h20 am on Sunday, police in Jan Kempdorp received information about a man that was stabbed in Nkomo street, next to a Tavern. Upon arrival at the scene they found the deceased lying on the ground with a stab wound on the chest. An ambulance was called and the deceased was certified dead” Mdhuli said.

Mdhluli said it is alleged that the deceased was stabbed by suspects while fighting in an apparent robbery attempt where three suspects wanted to rob the deceased. Jan Kempdorp Crime Prevention members went out in a massive search and managed to arrest three suspects.

“A knife was also confiscated from one of the suspects and the suspects will be charged with murder. Apparently as the police were busy detaining the three suspects, a complainant came to the Client Service Centre to report a robbery when the complainant identified and recognized two of the three suspects that were being detained” he said.

The suspects might be linked to the robbery and appeared at Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
