
Many remember him as the guy who went against the norm, moving from Orlando Pirates to Kaizer Chiefs in what was one of the most controversial transfers in the history of South African football.
But few people know that Jimmy Tau, the history-making former captain of both Pirates and Chiefs, hails from Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
A quiet man who these days hardly makes it to the front pages of local newspapers, Tau recently retired from a colourful career that saw him captain both the Soweto giants of the country’s football before playing for the senior national soccer side Bafana Bafana where his last appearance was at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.
