Johannesburg – A man was killed when a fire swept through his shack in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, on Saturday morning, the city’s emergency services said.

“It looked like he succumbed to smoke inhalation inside his shack and later died. He was alone at the time,” said spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

The incident happened around 03:00, and the cause of the fire was unknown.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
