Makwassie- The fight against sexual offences was intensified when the police in Makwassie arrested a 43 year-old man on Monday for allegedly raping a 14 year-old girl.
“It is alleged that the girl was on her way to town with her male friends when stopped by a truck driver who is well-known to them” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.
Mokgwabone said the man allegedly chased the girl’s friends away and ordered the victim to get inside the truck.
He allegedly drove to the local sport ground where he raped the victim in one of the change rooms.
The suspect allegedly dropped the girl along the road and threatened to kill her in case she reports the incident to any person.
“The victim saw passing police vehicle after being left by the suspect and stopped it. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested the same day and charged for rape” Mokgwabone said.
He appeared in Makwassie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last week and was remanded in custody until 19 June 2014 for further investigation.-TDN
