Seven nabbed for blasting safe open

Johannesburg – Seven people were arrested for allegedly blasting open a safe at an agricultural co-operative’s offices in Mankweng, Limpopo police said on Sunday.

“Ten suspects travelling in two vehicles broke into the offices of NTK earlier on Saturday evening,” Colonel Ronel Otto said.

“They blasted the safe and fled after taking a few money boxes with an undisclosed amount of money.”

The men then went to a house in Unit C, Mankweng where they allegedly used a grinder to open the boxes. An off-duty officer living across the road realised something was a miss and contacted his colleagues.

When police arrived three of the 10 managed to run away.

The seven were found hiding in the ceiling and in cupboards in the house. They are expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Police were still searching for the other three.

A grinder, housebreaking equipment, and money was recovered on the scene.
