ANC councillor’s house torched in Zeerust

Zeerust- The police are investigating a case of Public Violence, Malicious Damage to Property and Arson after the Tribal Office and one of the councillor’s houses were set alight last night in Khunotswane village on at about 20:00. 

“It is alleged that last night at about 19:15, a group of people were gathered next to the Tribal Office burning tyres, and signing struggle songs” Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said. 

Ngubane said he group split themselves in two to execute attack.

“Some of the people burned the Tribal office while the other proceeded to the councillor’s yard and burned the two-roomed house and broke windows of her newly build house” Ngubane said. 

The police were later informed about the matter.

Upon arrival, some members of the community threw stones at the police and also at the shop of the Bangladesh National.   

No one was arrested, no one sustained injuries and none of the police vehicles were damaged. 

“The situation in Zeerust is tense and the police are monitoring it and would like to urge every community member who has information that can assist in arresting perpetrators of these nature of crimes to come forward and report to the police” he conclude.-TDN
