Johannesburg – A 33-year-old man was convicted of rape by the Eastern Cape High Court in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, said Eastern Cape police.
Xolisile Tose would be sentenced on Thursday, said police spokesperson Thembi Gwe.
He raped a 6-year-old girl three years ago after luring her to his home.
“He took her to his place and repeatedly raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone,” said Gwe.
He released her the next day.
Community members found the girl on the street, wearing a bloodstained sweater.
“The suspect was later arrested and charged with rape,” said Gwe.
He has been in police custody since his arrest over two years ago after the court denied him bail.
