A man arrested with a illegal firearm

Coligny-A 51 year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of firearm of Friday at approximately 17:45 at Tlhabologang in Coligny. 

 

“It is alleged that an argument ensued between a woman and two male occupants of an Audi car. It is further alleged that one of the males pointed the woman with a firearm, but they eventually left and the woman followed them with her car” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said. 

 

She was still following them when she saw a police officials to whom she reported the matter.

 

The police drove and followed the suspects who were stopped. Upon search, a firearm was found in possession of one of the men, but failed to produce a valid licence.

 

“He was arrested and is expected to appear in Coligny Magistrates’Court soon” Mokgwabone said.-TDN

Taung man arrested for murder

Taung-North West police arrested a 28 year-old man after he allegedly killed another man with an iron rod at Magogong village, near Taung on Saturday.

 

Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said a 28 year-old man was at a tavern and involved in a quarrel with another man over a change.

 

“The argument ensued between the two and a 28 year-old man left the tavern accompanied by his brother” Mokgwabone said.

 

The suspect allegedly found a 26 year-old man at his house waiting for them.

 

“The 26 year-old man entered the house of the suspect where he awaits for them. He demanded his cash immediately the suspect entered the house” police said.

 

The 26 year-old man tried to smash a television set with a brick, but the suspect was on his toes to block the brick.

 

An argument ensued that precipitated to a fight.

 

A 28 year-old man allegedly grabbed an iron rod and assaulted the victim with it.

 

“A 26 year-old man was left limping and found dead few metres away from the crime scene” he said.

 

Police investigations continue and a murder case was launched.-TDN

5 Murdered, 776 arrested in North West

The North West police arrested a total of 776 suspects through various day to day operations in the past seven days between 23 February and 2 March 2014 for Contact, Contact related, Property related and other crimes.

 

The arrests include 5 for Murder, 12 for Rape,162 for Assault common as well as Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 44  for burglary residential, 32 for shoplifting, 21 for driving under the influence of liquor, 36 for possession of suspected stolen property,  47 for drug  related crimes, 13 for robbery aggravating and many other crimes. 89  undocumented persons were also arrested.

 

The following goods were also seized during operations: dagga and dagga plants,4 vehicles, 6 cell phones, 5 firearms, 5 knives as well various drugs and illegal cigarettes. 

 

“Most of the suspects have already appeared in various courts while others are expected to appear on Monday” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.-TDN

Bafana game to be aired on both channels

Johannesburg-The high-profile international friendly between Bafana Bafana and five-time world champions, Brazil will be screened on both SABC and SuperSport channels. 

 

Due to popular demand, SAFA has made sure the match is available on both free-to-air and satellite channels.

 

“The game to be played on Wednesday, 5 March 2014 has created massive interest not only on the African continent but globally and is expected to post another record viewership on these two broadcast platforms” Bafana spokesperson Matlhomola Morake said.

 

The match will form part of celebrating 20 years of democracy while both Bafana Bafana and Brazil will use the occasion to unveil their new kit.

 

“The Samba Boys will showcase their 2014 World Cup playing kit while the home side will unveil their new limited edition Nike gear” Morake said.

Malaika’s Tshedi flying high

Taung-After years of success with multi-award winning Afro pop group Malaika,Tshedi Mholo is running her own league and she is a legendary in her own right.

With so many solo careers taking a nose dive,the 37-old Lichtenburg-born took a brave move which happened to be the best thing she had ever done.

“Wow, flying solo is such an amazing journey. I am much at peace especially when one has to make major decisions on her own” said the talented singer.

Her 13 tracks debut solo album called ‘Victory’ was released late last year received unwavering support and is taking music industry by storm.

The achievement proves that Tshedi has matured like a fine wine.

With tracks like Umsebenzi and Bomme receiving an airplay on different radio stations earning her gigs on big event around the country, Tshedi is definitely a force to be reckon with.

The album is the mixture of jazz, contemporary RnB, classic and gospel music.

“Im still learning the joy of being a solo act and developing myself so I can be of benefit to my province and my people back home” she smiles.

“I made music that says Tshedi and made a good choice of producers as well. I have an amazing band, musically we stand out Live” she continues.

Tshedi’s music have not only been received well by South Africa but by other neighbouring countries like Botswana and Lesotho.

“My fans must buy my music and relate with me and more than anything else enjoy the brilliant African sound. I can’t measure my success by CD sales only, but by how my fans react to my presentation” outlines Mholo.

Amongst her fans is controversial EFF CIC Julius Malema who at some point appealed to South Africans to support her to re-intergrates her back into music industry.

This year seems it will be a big year for Tshedi. She has been chosen as a Limpopo Choir Master on ‘Clash of the Choir’ season 2 that will air soon on Mzansi Magic.”What a stepping stone,there is more to come and also there is a plan to be a feature on one of our local comedy stories” she said.

“God is amazing, for one to be victorious you ought to fight till the end and make your dream a reality” she continues.

Metro FM Awards cebrate ’20 years of Beats’

Johannesburg-South African musicians were once again recognised and paid for their hard work at the 13 Metro FM Music Awards at the Durban ICC last night.

Metro FM went all out,proving that they can organise a world class awards ceremony,beating the struggling SAMA white wash in the process.

The awards started with a moving tribute of a father of the nation and the first black and democratic president Nelson Mandela,with a display of well known media personalities and musician saying Madiba’s famous quotes as the nation celebrate the 20 years of democracy.

The awards were themed 20 years of beat which saw the forgotten former music heavy weights like Thebe,Zola 7 and Alaska back on stage,performing their hits from the past.

The opening act was Zahara singing Nelson Mandela,her tribute song to Madiba.Winnie Khumalo joined her on stage singing Black President.

The big winners are Mafikizolo winning three awards: Best Duo/Group,Best Produced Album and Best African Pop Album.

Khuli Chana who did not make it due to his nomination at the Black Canadian Awards, won Best Hit Single and Best Video for Mnatebawen and the the IT group Uhuru won Best Collaboration and the highly contested Song Of The Year Award.

The two Life time achievement awards were awarded to renowned producers and musicians Robbie Malinga and Oskido.

Suprisingly Kwesta won Best Hip Hop Album,not sure if Metro FM fear an open letter.

Acting Premier calls on IPID to investigate infant’s death


North West Acting Premier Paul Sebegoe has called on the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to investigate the circumstance surrounding the death of a three-month old baby who is alleged to have died due to inhalation of teargas smoke fired by public order police who were dispersing the protesting and illegally gathered crowd in Majakaneng on Saturday.

“We are saddened by the loss of life of the infant and wish to appeal for calm while we await the outcome of a postmortem which will assist determine the cause of the death,” Acting Premier Sebegoe said.
“We appeal to the community to exercise restraint, desist from illegal violent protests and give the interventions aimed at fast tracking water connections a chance. We cannot afford more loss of lives and destruction of public and private properties,” added Sebegoe.
The Acting Premier said that Eskom has committed to electrify the five boreholes that had been drilled to augment water supply within two weeks.
“Water tankering as provided by International Ferrochrome Metal Mine is a temporary intervention while vandalised water reticulation infrastructure such as taps, water meters and pipes which had to been damaged are being repaired, ”he  emphasised.-TDN

Rankotea community to receive mining royalties commission report


MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison Nono Maloyi will

on Saturday officially hand-over 600 houses to the communities of Groot Marico that has been living in an informal settlement situated next to the N4 in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality.

The houses are now part of the departmental handing over programme of more than 8 000 houses between February and March across the province.

The programme seeks to speed-up the eradication of informal settlements in the province as to restore the dignity of community members and celebrating 20 years of democracy.

McBride new Head of IPID

Pretoria-The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa on Friday officially announced the appointment of Mr Robert McBride as the new Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
 
He will assume this position with effect 3 March 2014. 

“The Minister, together with Mr McBride will host a media briefing in the coming days to officially introduce him” departmental spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said. 

The briefing will provide Mr McBride to broadly outline his strategic vision towards ensuring that IPID continues to play its oversight role more effectively. 

“It will also provide members of the media to get an opportunity of interacting with him” Mnisi said.

Minister Mthethwa wishes Mr McBride all the best in his new role and remains confident that, with the support IPID management and staff, they will steer IPID to become an effective and efficient oversight institution within the criminal justice system.

The Minister further thanked the former Acting Executive Director, Ms Koekie Mbeki for having led IPID over the past year and half.-TDN
