Mmakau-North West Premier Thandi Modise has welcomed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the alleged car hijacking, kidnapping and gruesome murder of a 42- year- old woman whose body was recovered from the Rooiwal river near Hammanskraal.
In condemning the incident and applauding police for the swift arrest of the suspects, Premier Modise called on men who are insecure in their relationships to seek counselling and professional help to assist them deal with separation with their partners.
“The long arm of the law will always catch up with those who take matters into their own hands and those who devise wicked plots against their partners instead of accepting that some relationships are irreconcilable,” Premier Modise stressed in calling for no-bail for the arrested suspects.
“We urge police not to leave any stone unturned until the two remaining suspects are behind bars,” added Modise.
According to police, a couple was hijacked and kidnapped by three unknown men who pointed a firearm at them at Mmakau outside Brits on Monday morning at about 2:00am.
“They were ordered to get out of their vehicle where they had allegedly parked near a local pub. It is reported that the two suspects instructed the male companion also aged 42 to drive with them to Soshanguve and the third suspect took the woman to an unidentified vehicle which parked nearby,” Captain Pelonomi Makau said.
According to the information, the unidentified vehicle had another male passenger, who was later identified as the estranged husband to the woman.
“It further alleged that the unidentified vehicle followed the boyfriend’s vehicle, and at Soshanguve the suspects instructed the boyfriend to drive back to Mmakau,” Captain Makau said.
The unidentified vehicle together with the three suspects, the girlfriend the male passenger drove away.
The boyfriend reported the ordeal to the police and one suspect was arrested on Thursday and the other one was arrested on Friday.
The two suspects were arrested at Soshanguve and Stinkwater respectively.
It is alleged that on Friday the husband confessed to dumping his estranged wife at the Rooiwal river near Hammanskraal.
The police in Hammanskraal recovered a body of an unknown woman at Rooiwal river which was identified as the estranged wife on.
Makau said that police investigations are continuing.-TDN
