Extraordinary measures are being undertaken to fast track provision of water to Majakaneng community outside Brits, North West Acting Premier Paul Sebegoe said on Friday.
In appealing to the community to exercise restraint, Acting Premier Sebegoe said that five boreholes had been drilled to augment water supply while vandalised water reticulation infrastructure such as taps, water meters and pipes which had to been damaged are repaired.
“Eskom has assured us that having received the application for the boreholes to be energized, it would pull all stops to ensure that they are electrified and operational within the next two weeks. Water tankering as provided by International Ferrochrome Metal Mine is a temporary intervention,” Sebegoe said.
A provincial technical task team has been dispatched to beef the Madibeng Local Municipality team that was scheduled to address the rioting residents on short term interventions aimed at alleviating the water crisis in the area.-TDN
