Pretoria – Young South African actor Armand Greyling, 22, has spoken about his lead role in a new soon-to-be-released South African movie called Die Windpomp.
Greyling, who is a relative newcomer to the South African acting scene, plays a young man who has some rather strange experiences at his grandfather’s retirement village. The movie has been described as a romantic fantasy with comical elements, with some in the movie business already saying the film is unlike anything SA audiences have seen before.

Oscar surfed porn sites on fatal night

Johannesburg-The police investigations show that paralympic murder accused, Oscar Pistorius was allegedly surfing porn sites during the fatal shooting at his house.
A model Reeva Steenkamp was allegedly shot by Pistorius at the night of Valentine’s Day.
According to Sunday Times, the source who is part of investigation team confirmed that Pistorius’ cellphone shows he was surfing porn sites before the shooting. Pistorius said the mistaken Steenkamp for intruder.
The paralympic athlete’s trial resumes on 03 March where much will be revealed.

ANC despatches Heavyweights
Pretoria – In a clear bid to defend its territory, the ANC dispatched its heavyweights to areas where the Economic Freedom Fighters and the Democratic Alliance were launching their manifestos.
According to the Sunday Independent, deputy ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa led a 50-strong delegation to five regions in Limpopo this weekend. The regions are where the DA launches its election manifesto on Sunday.
In addition, Gauteng provincial ANC chairperson Paul Mashatile fought back at an election concert in Tembisa – only four kilometres from where the EFF launched its manifesto on Saturday.
Both politicians dedicated portions of their speeches to attack the EFF.
Analysts say that the ANCs reaction is a sign of fear brought on by the rise of the EFF and the inroads made by the DA in areas that for years have been known as ANC strongholds.
According to political analyst Ralph Mathekga, the ANC is extremely intimidated by Julius Malema’s fledgling party and that the ANC could no longer pretend not to be worried about the rise of the EFF.

NWest has a good story to tell regarding development of young people-Premier Modise
The North West Provincial Bursary Programme awarded grants amounting to R49, 488 million to 1035 needy young people to pursue studies over the past five years, Premier Thandi Modise reported in her State of the Province delivered on Friday.
In outlining the extent to which young people had benefitted from government programmes, Premier Modise said that 213 of the young people who benefitted from the programme graduated in various scarce skills needed by the province
“We have a good story to tell regarding development of our young people,” Premier Modise adding that a total of 4868 unemployed youth and graduates benefitted from the Provincial skills development and training programmes that were targeted at youth.
Three thousand eight hundred and thirty-three (3833) of the beneficiaries were registered in skills development programmes such as learnerships, internships and apprenticeship.
Modise thanked the mining qualification authority for offering 60 students to further studies in mining engineering this year.-TDN

NWest to maintain its record on housing delivery-Premier Modise
The residents and housing beneficiaries of the North West will continue witnessing the increase of housing delivery as the Provincial Government continue to make a difference in the lives of many people who have been waiting for years to get houses.
In her State of the Province Address at the Provincial Legislature on Friday, North West Premier, Thandi Modise, said the provision of Outcome 8 deliverable is an obligation that her province will continue to realise without any excuse.
“The programme of giving our people houses has proven to be one of the most fundamental interventions in the history of rolling out services to our people in making a significant impact in their lives,” said Premier Modise.
The Premier further outlined that the Provincial Government would unblock a number of blocked housing projects to maintain the status of being the best performing province in housing delivery in the country.
During the 2013 National Govan Mbeki Awards, the North West Provincial Government was recognised as the best performing province following a success in spending the Human Settlements Development Grant that was allocated for the province.
The Govan Mbeki Awards are designed to recognise and showcase the excellent work done and promoting the best practice in housing delivery.-TDN

Three injured in a car accident near Taung

Taung-Two people were taken to Joe Morolong hospital after the car they were travelling with capsized on N18 road near Taung.
The victims are originally from Ditshilong Section, in Taung.
The accident took place on Friday where Thobeka Mahusi who was driving a red Toyota all the way from Mahikeng to Taung was allegedly forced out of the road by a truck.
According to eyewitness, Mahusi lost control of her car as the weather was bad and the road was slippery. It is alleged the truck was driving on the leften side of the road, but was too big and that forced the driver to drive on the shoulders of the road.
The car veered of the road and jumped the sideline fence before it landed on its roof in a canal.
The driver was travelling with her nephew, Nkululeko,21 and her son.
The paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and took Mahusi and her son to Joe Morolong hospital as Nkululeko suffered minor injuries.
Taung police were called and the accident is been investigated.-TDN

Premier Modise expresses shock at Nazi salutes
North West Premier Thandi Modise has expressed shock at the alleged expression of Nazi salutes on the campus of North West University-Potchefstroom Campus.
According to news reports, some white students, during an initiation ceremony, allegedly performed among others the Nazi salute, and related acts of Nazism. Premier Modise, upon learning of this Nazi solidarity by young students who are apparently in their first year of study, said that she cannot believe that this kind of sentiments are still being harboured in a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and free South Africa.
“It is disturbing, because this incident demonstrates that segments of our young, white people are still vulnerable to ethnic and racial indoctrination. As South Africans, we have come along way, indeed almost 20 years to the day to bury the sceptre of racism and ethnicity in all its manifestations. We believe that this is not an isolated incident, since initiation rituals on some historically white campuses remain clandestine and makes it therefore all the more perilous,” said the Premier.
Modise added that institutions of higher learning should be repositories of learning, knowledge creation and expansive thinking.
“As a nation, we can ill-afford to be exposed to any sentiment which undermines the prescripts of our constitution. We are equally encouraged by the swift condemnation of the incident by the management of the university which has taken the public in their confidence in relation to the matter. As the provincial government, we will continue to monitor events at the campus and await the outcome of the investigation,” she concluded.-TDN

Comprehensive plans for transport and security system for Bafana Bafana/Brazil game
Johannesburg-Members of the public are encouraged to make use of the efficient public transport on 5 March when Bafana Bafana take on five-time world champions Brazil at FNB Stadium.
The match kicks off at 19h00.Addressing members of the media in Johannesburg on Friday (21 March 2014), Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Mr Wayne Minaar said due to the historical congestion experienced during high profile matches of this nature, soccer fans should try by all means to avoid using private vehicles.
“We want members of the public to make use of a variety of public transportation to FNB Stadium. We also want to ask the public to arrive early at the stadium,” said Minaar, who added that strict road closures will be in operation within the Nasrec precinct.
“Illegal parking, including pavement parking will be strictly regulated and heavy fines will be imposed to all culprits. Use public transport, it will be cost effective, reliable and very efficient,” he said adding that there was limited pre-paid public parking within the Nasrec precinct.
Meanwhile, Rea Vaya has assured members of the public that the park and ride services will be running at full throttle on the day of the match and the public can make use of facilities at Constitutional Hill, Metro Centre, Westgate, UJ Kingsway and Indingilizi Rea Vaya Bus terminal.
The Metrorail will also provide four trains departing from the Park Station from 16h00-18h00. The trains will depart soon after the match from Nasrec. The return ticket will cost R20 which include secured car parking next to Park Station.
The pick-up and drop off points for taxis will be Noord Street, Bree Street Taxi Rank, Baragwanath, Eldos, Dobsonville Police Station, Meadowlands Police Station, Phefeni Taxi Rank, Cross Road Taxi Rank and Dube Station Taxi Rank.
Tickets for the match are going for R50, R100 and R200 for the upper, lower and middle tiers.

Ambulances to exclusively transport pregnant women to be unveiled
The North West province has converted 10 ambulances into well equipped Obstetric ambulances to exclusively transport pregnant women. Procured and converted at a cost of R5.9 million, the obstetric will help eliminate home deliveries and births in transit, Premier Thandi Modise, said during the delivery of her State of the Province Address in Mahikeng on Friday.
The maternal mortality ratio has been reduced from 189/100 000 live births to 181/100 000 live births. The province had also seen a decrease in the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) from 40 deaths per 1 000 live births in 2009, to 30 deaths per 1 000 live births in 2011, Premier Modise said.
Modise said: “The figures are expected to decline drastically following the establishment of 16 maternity waiting homes to bring pregnant women closer to birthing places two weeks prior to delivery. The 16 maternity waiting homes were established at a cost of R4 million.”
The province also established four milks bank at Potchefstroom, Joe Morolong, Mahikeng and Job Shimakana Tabane Hospitals to cater for mothers who are unable to breastfeed for health reasons.
“We have recorded a decrease in Mother to Child Transmission of HIV from 8.5% in 2008, to 2.7% in 2013. The caregivers have increased from 5 330 active care givers appointed in 2009 to 6439 in 2013.
“This has improved the frequency of house visit to 1 148 940 for the whole 3013,” Premier Modise said.
She announced that the province had implemented the first phase of the National Health Insurance, and also seen the implementation of Primary Health Care Re-engineering.-TDN
