Kraaipan-Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison MEC Nono Maloyi will on Tuesday hand over about 200 houses to families in Kraaipan.

The hand over is part of the MEC’s programme of officially handing over 8000 houses to beneficiaries across the province in 60 days.

Kraaipan is one of the areas where most of its residents survive on communal farming and the level of unemployment is high. Some of the residents were farm workers who have never owned a house in their entire life.

“According to Maloyi the handover programme is part of the 20 years of democracy celebrations and restoration of dignity among Kraaipan and Ratlou community who continued to live either in mud houses or in shacks which compromises their health and wellbeing” departmental spokesperson Ben Bole said.

The handover ceremony will be held as follows:

Date: 25 February 2014

Time: 14H00

Venue: Kraaipan Community hall
