A man found hanged in Morokweng village, near Taung

Taung-A 27 year-old man was allegedly found hanged in the bushes on Friday in Morokweng village, near Taung.

 

Kabelo Mosalaesi allegedly found hanged from a tree by herdboys in Morokweng village this morning.

 

Even though the details surrounding his death, Mosalaesi was seen yesterday drunk.

 

“I was with him yesterday and he was drunk, but never looked troubled him” said our mole.

 

Taung police launched an inquest docket and investigation continues.-TDN

Over R1.2 billion investment in health infrastructure

Twenty eight new health facilities have been built in the North West Province and many more received essential upgrade to resemble a place of healing from the outside.

 

Speaking during the State of the Province Address in Mahikeng today, Premier Thandi Modise, announced that facilities maintenance audit which was done under the hospital revitalization projects at Moses Kotane, Joe Morolong Memorial (Vryburg), Swartruggens and Brits hospitals confirms that the province have spent over R1,2 billion on these completed facilities.

 

Premier Modise said the Bophelong Psychiatric Hospital which was under construction in Mahikeng would also cost the province over R482 million.

 

In addition to these facilities, Premier Modise said: “We have completed 17 clinics and seven Community Health Centres since 2009.  Ten Primary Health Care Facilities have also received essential upgrade from 2011 to 2013”.

 

The maintenance programme was fully underway in a number of the facilities, she said. 

 

To improve quality emergency medical services, Premier Modise announced that the province purchased 130 ambulances in addition to the 40 available emergency medical rescue vehicles.

 

“We have increased the number of medical doctor trainees from 10 in 2009 to 110 in

 

2003 and have recruited our highest number of 180 trainees to be sent to Cuba on a budget of R36 million this year,” Premeir Modise said.-TDN

Significant progress made towards the provisioning of water and sanitation – Premier Modise

Mahikeng-Significant progress has been made in increasing the number of households with access to clean running water, sanitation facilities and electricity, North West Premier Thandi Modise said in her State of the Province Address at the opening of the North West Provincial Legislature in Mahikeng earlier today.

 

“We have made progress. As part of the commitment made to the people of the North West, the Premier’s Legacy Projects seek to meet the municipalities halfway in the delivery of basic services,” said Premier Modise. 

 

Premier Modise said an amount of R150m has been set aside through Premier Legacy Project to reduce backlog in sanitation by the end of March 2014. 

 

“We have reduced the backlog by 12, 314 sanitation facilities shared among the four District Municipalities. 2500 rain water tanks will be distributed to the areas with less average rainfall,” added Modise. 

 

She said fifty-six boreholes are being drilled and will be ready by the end of the 2013/14 financial year.

 

Modise said the provincial government was in partnership with the Department of Water Affairs and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality to construct the Dinokana Water Supply Phase 2 at Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality to the tune of twenty one million, four hundred and sixty eight rand and seventy four cents (R 21, 468, 289, 74). 

 

The project is expected to be completed at the end of November 2014. 

 

Twenty one million, eight hundred and one thousands and two hundred and thirty seven rand (R21 801 237) has been made available to ensure that all the villages get sufficient clean water through the Mafikeng South Regional Water Supply Scheme.

 

The Setlagole Bulk Water Supply commenced on the 01 November 2013 and will be completed on 30 October 2014 at the tune of R22 000 000.

 

Modise also revealed that the provincial government has signed memorandum of understanding with the Department of Water Affairs and Human Settlement to the value of R2 Billion in January this year to accelerate the provisioning of clean water and sanitation.-TDN

R15 million expenditure on multimedia resources contributed towards improving matric results-Premier Modise

The North West Province has spend over R15 million towards multimedia resources that benefitted 500 secondary schools over the past five years, Premier Thandi Modise reported in her State of the Province Address delivered on Friday.

 

Premier Modise said that the expenditure contributed significantly towards improvement of teaching and learning of mathematics and science and the overall improvement of matric results from under 60% in 1994 to 73% in 2012, under 50 in 1997 to 79,5 % in 2012 and excellent pass rate of 87.2% in 2013 to achieve the most improved results in the country.

 

“We are humbled by the work of our school governing bodies keeping schools functional in all respect, stocked, cleaned and repaired, punctual and presentable, often having to trade words to ensure that parents, teachers, learners and communities focussed their energies correctly on our children – our future,” emphasised Modise.

 

She expressed appreciation to teacher unions, parents and community members who went on their way to give qualitative support to bring the North West into the second place on the matric results.-TDN

N West ‘sugar-daddy- shot self dead, injured wife

Lichtenburg-The Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and inquest after a 40-year-old man shot his wife,21 on Friday at about 12:00. 

 

“It is alleged that the two were arguing outside a well-known restaurant in Lichtenburg then the man took out a gun and shot the woman in the stomach then shot himself” brigadier Thulane Ngubane said.  

 

The man died at scene and the woman was rushed to the hospital.

NWest to maintain its record on housing delivery

Mahikeng-The residents and housing beneficiaries of the North West will continue witnessing the increase of housing delivery as the Provincial Government continue to make a difference in the lives of many people who have been waiting for years to get houses.

 

In her State of the Province Address at the Provincial Legislature on Friday, North West Premier, Thandi Modise, said the provision of Outcome 8 deliverable is an obligation that her province will continue to realise without any excuse.

 

“The programme of giving our people houses has proven to be one of the most fundamental interventions in the history of rolling out services to our people in making a significant impact in their lives,” said Modise.

 

The Premier further outlined that the Provincial Government would unblock a number of blocked housing projects to maintain the status of being the best performing province in housing delivery in the country.

 

During the 2013 National Govan Mbeki Awards, the North West Provincial Government was recognised as the best performing province following a success in spending the Human Settlements Development Grant that was allocated for the province.

 

The Govan Mbeki Awards are designed to recognise and showcase the excellent work done and promoting the best practice in housing delivery.-TDN

  Premier Modise calls for probe into the death of mine worker

North West Premier Thandi Modise has expressed concern about reports that a mine worker was killed yesterday in one of the mines in Swartkilp.

 

“As we convey our condolences to the family of the deceased, we wish to condemn this senseless violence and killings and appeal to police to act speedily in arresting those responsible,” said Premier Modise.

 

Modise called for an investigation into the death which is believed to be related to the irrational killings in the North West platinum belt, which she said undermines the framework for peace and stability in the mining industry.

 

She said the rule of law has to be upheld and peace maintained to ensure protection of life, property and the advancement of the rights of all.-TDN

NWest tourism investment value stands at R10 billion-Premier Modise


Mahikeng-The Tourism investment value for the North West Province stands at R10 billion, has contributed about 4% of the provincial GDP and generated R2.2 billion during 2012,North West Premier Thandi Modise announced  in her State of the Province Address delivered in the Provincial legislature on Friday.

Premier Modise reported that the province supported 1144 SMME’s,81 cooperatives,40 economic development projects in municipalities and 28 capacity building and interventions. 

“One hundred and eighty-three SMME’s benefitted from first phase development, capacity building, Market access and exposure to industry in the past financial year.  Women, youth and people with disability were beneficiaries in Seventy-three (73) economic development programmes which were rolled out,” Modise said. 

The Province scoped the 2010/2011 Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year (ETEYA) award.-TDN

Suspects arrested with R107 000 cash, Drugs

Pretoria –The Organised Crime Unit of the Hawks in the North West arrested four suspected drug dealers on Thursday during a joint operation with Crime Intelligence in Wistaria Street in Flimieda, Klerksdorp. 

 

During the search, the team seized R107 000 in cash, 56 cellular phones, five laptops, three GPSs, 16 digital cameras, dagga worth R600,00 and drugs worth R200,00.

 

“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects was wanted for being in possession of dagga” Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramoloko.

 

The suspects with an outstanding warrant of arrest will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday. 

 

The three suspects will appear in the same court again Friday on charges of dealing in drugs and being in possession of suspected stolen goods.

 

“We will not rest until a supplier of these drugs is identified,” said the Head of the Hawks in the North West, Major General Ntebo Mabula.-TDN
