N West official arrested for fraud

Lichtenburg Regional Court sentenced Wesley Kenaope(28) to five years imprisonment for fraud. Kenaope was employed as a cashier at Coligny Municipality from 2008.

Amongst his duties he was responsible for collection of money paid for services by the community and bank the money collected in the bank account of the Municipality.

“During his employment he issued fraudulent receipts for monies collected, reflecting correct amount paid on the copy issued to the payee and less amount on the office copy. The total amount fraudulently stolen from the Municipality is R 92 666-00. Kenaope was arrest last year after an intense investigation that took the North West Hawks two months” brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

Ngubane said the good work of the Hawks is commendable for excellent investigation done on this case and he said this is a clear example that crime does not pay, at some point the truth will come out and perpetrators will be brought to book.

“The NPA and the Court are also commended for their sterling work of continuing to strengthen our criminal justice system and sending out a clear message to all professional employees that crime and corruption does not pay” he said.-TDN
