Share the road responsibly to reduce the carnage on public roads-Premier Modise

Image

North West Premier Modise has appealed to motorists to share the road responsibly throughout the festive season and to desist from putting their own lives and those of other road users at risk through speeding, aggression, driving whilst tired and other irresponsible behaviour.

In calling for zero tolerance road traffic law enforcement and support for the Decade of Action for Road Safety Campaign, Premier Modise said that driver behavior still accounts for most fatalities on public roads.

“One death on our road is a death too many. While drivers need to be courteous towards each other, law enforcement should meet all offences, behaviour and attitude that will be detrimental to the safety of other road users and citizens with the full might of the law,” Modise stressed.

“Those who are travelling long distances should ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and remember that fatigue is a killer. They should stop and rest after 200 kilometers or being two hours on the road,” she added.-TDN

Basetsana crush Tanzania

South Africa…….(2) 5

Tanzania ………..0

(Basetsana win 9-1 on aggregate)

Basetsana ran rings around their Tanzanian counterparts pounding them 5-0 to complete a 9-1 aggregate win in this exciting World Cup qualifying match played at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

On a sun-drenched day, the Sheryl Botes girls were on another planet subjecting their opponents to a torrid afternoon.

The massive win set up a grudge match against rivals Nigeria to confirm who goes to the World Cup in Canada next year.

Regular scorer, Kaylin Swart set the ball rolling when she found the net through a penalty in the 19th minute before Mosili Makhoali made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

With many thinking Basetsana would take the foot off the pedal in the second half, Shiwe Nogwanya slammed home the third soon after resumption before two late goals from Meagan Newman and substitute Nomvula  Kgoale completed a miserable day for the East Africans.

Though Tanzania had all but lost the encounter in the first leg in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago when  they conceded 4 goals in their backyard, for a team that demolished Mozambique in the first round, a lot was expected of them.

However, Basetsana were just too good on the day and with a bit of some luck could have scored a couple more goals.

“This was a great win and I am happy the girls are beginning to believe in themselves. We are still on track to qualify for the World Cup but we need to take one game at a time,” said coach Sheryl Botes.

“For now, we need to celebrate this is part of the journey knowing we are still to cross the line.”-TDN
