Taung-Former Orlando Pirates defender Lucas Tlhomelang organised a three day tournament at his hometown, Pudumong village, near Taung that was kickstarted on Friday and will end on Sunday.
The tournament will be annual and according to the former Bafana defender.
Rangers FC kick-started the tounament like a house on fire.
They played first game against Zebra United and emerged victorious.
They showed their pedigree again in second game where they played against Bophirima All Stars.
Rangers FC striker Thapelo Mosala opened his scoring account after he received a well pass from his team mate.
The Manthestad-based team played an enterprising football with splitting passes on display.
Mosala double the matter before his counterpart, Boikie Maritshi put his name on a score sheet.
The game was opened as Bophirima All Stars showed some hints of good skills while on the ball.
The flood gates opened when Maritshi scored his second goal and stretch a lead.
Mosala put the game beyond opponents reach after he scored another goal to make scoreline 4-0.
The buyoed defence from All Stars tried to keep things in balance and to save themselves an embarassment, but Rangers were not in a compromising mood.
“We looking forward to play a game and hopefully qualify for semi-finals. I am very grateful for this initiative as we will now see more young players getting opportunity to trade their football at highest level.” Rangers coach Obakeng “Prosto” Mogabale said.
Mogabale said things are very difficult to run a team as they do so from their own pockets and in a shoe-string budget.
“We would like to appeal to sponsors to come on board and support rural teams. Running a team from your own pocket and in a shoe-string budget is not good at all. We want to see more players to emerge from Taung and we’re grateful to see this kind of tournaments taking place” outlines Mogabale.
Rangers FC won a game 5-1 after Mosala scores a first hatrick of the tournament.
All Stars Owageng Pico pulled one for his team.
Rangers FC will square up again on Saturday with another team to decide their fate as they are sitting comfortable on the summit of their group with six point.-TDN
