Sasol Banyana Banyana players on show at the Sasol League National Championships

The fifth edition of South Africa’s premier women’s football league finals, the Sasol League National Championships, will see an array of Sasol Banyana Banyana players fighting for their respective clubs to be crowned as the 2013 Sasol League National Champions. The event takes place in Klerksdorp from Monday, 25

Last year’s leading goals scorer and current Banyana Banyana player Silindile Ngubane will be leading the strike force for her team Durban Ladies, which has no less than four players  in the senior national women’s football team in; former Sasol Banyana Banyana captain Amanda Dlamini, Zamandosi  Cele  and Memory Makhanya.

 

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies who lost Banyana Banyana midfielder Sanah Mollo to TUT Pretoria Ladies for the 2013 Sasol League season will be led upfront by Shiwe Nongwanya who was selected to the senior national team at the beginning of the 2013 international football season. Shiwe has been in fine form for Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies this season and she is certainly a player to look out for at this year’s national championships.  

 

2012 finalists Cape Town Roses will be looking to midfield speedster Nocawe Skiti who was the top goal scorer for her team at the 2010 tournament hosted in Polokwane. Nocawe who has been an integral player for both her team and Sasol Banyana Banyana in recent months will be looking to guide her team to championship victory come Sunday, 01

We are very excited to have as many as six Banyana Banyana players participating at this year’s tournament.. With Limpopo and Gauteng Sasol League representatives participating in this year’s tournament still to be confirmed, we could see two or three more Sasol Banyana Banyana players joining us for what is going to be a spectacle of women’s football in Klerksdorp,” said  Dumisani Mbokane, Sasol Sponsorship Specialist

 

Fans attending the matches will also get a chance to partake in the daily activities that will be taking place on the day. The first 100 spectators at the stadium will each receive a free gift from Sasol and at half time in each of the 17 games that will be played throughout the week, spectators will stand a chance to participate in the Sasol “Shikisha” Skills Competition and win great prizes. Fans will compete in football ball skills, shooting and dancing competitions to showcase their “Shikisha” football and dance moves.  

 

“Women’s football has grown over the years due to the support received from Sasol and I foresee a much more competitive national championship than in previous years. I’m very excited at the prospect of seeing so many national team players participating in this year’s tournament. It will definitely make the weeklong tournament very exciting not only for me but for the spectators as well. ,” said Joseph Mkhonza, Banyana Banyana coach“

 

As a national team coach one can only be excited about what’s about to happen in Klerksdorp next week especially as we will be looking to identify prospective players that will further strengthen Banyana Banyana in what will be our most challenging year yet in 2014,” added  MkhonzaThe tournament will take place at two stadiums over the week-long event. Alabama Stadium in Alabama will host the first four days of the tournament which includes the group stages from Monday, 25
