Klerksdorp-The Financial Information released to the public and Councillors of Matlosana over recent months by our Mayor and Municipal Manager has been incorrect.

“I learned reliably yesterday that the Municipality owes R123 million to Eskom and R40 million to Midvaal Water since end of October. Far from being under control as we were assured repeatedly by the Mayor, the situation is desperate as our expenditure each month exceeds our incoming revenue” DA Tiaan Kotze said.

DA said the mismanagement of their financial affairs cannot and will not be allowed to continue and for this reason a special meeting of Council will be held at the insistence of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) this Friday,  at which meeting their recommendation is that the Council finally accepts that it is legally under Financial  Administration, that the existing bunglers be stripped of their powers, and that Province be requested to immediately put the three administrators in place to correct the mess that we are in.

Even the ANC Councillors now realise that they have been misled by the incorrect information fed to them by the Mayor, the Municipal Manager and the CFO, and will hopefully accept the recommendations made by MPAC, and resolve accordingly, says Kotze.

The DA realised the desperate situation months ago and has said so repeatedly in Council, but the ANC councillors allegedly toed the party line instead of the communities’ best interest.-TDN
