Wayward Jabu Pule to try it one more time

Image

IN what will set tongues wagging, one of Mzansi’s most talked about soccer stars, Jabu “Ngwana wa Tshwenya” Mahlangu, is returning to the PSL.

Mahlangu (33) has been given a lifeline to resurrect his soccer career by SuperSport United. SunSport can reveal that the dribbling wizard has been called by coach, Cavin Johnson, to train in attempt to get him fit for play once again. Impeccable sources with information told SunSport that Mahlangu will be joining Matsantsa a Pitori at training on Tuesday. The former Kaizer chiefs soccer star will be on a three-month intensive training and will also travel with the team to Cape Town during the African Championship of Nations break to play friendly games.

“The coach still believes in Jabu and thinks that he will make a better addition to the team. “He has experience and is matured now and they considered all that,” said the source. The once-troublesome player was also appointed as brand ambassador for the club and he will be juggling both jobs. Speaking to SunSport this week, Mahlangu said: “I’m so humbled by the call because it shows that the coach still believes in me. Two years ago no one wanted to be associated with the name Jabu Mahlangu. “I appreciate SuperSport United’s management, the coach and everyone else who didn’t give up on me,’’ he said.

“This time around it’s just going to be me, football and nothing else. I’m no longer going to entertain other things. I’ve learnt my lessons,” Mahlangu added. Mahlangu was one of the best players in South Africa when he started out at Kaizer Chiefs. But his career took a nosedive because of ill-discipline, women and boozing. He then joined Austrian club, SV Mattersburg, but was released from the club because of bad behaviour.

Mahlangu also had a stint at Orlando Pirates, Supersport United and FC Cape Town. Jack of all trades Mahlangu also tried his luck in the local music industry and also acting on TV. Johnson, the United coach said: “We are still looking at it. We are trying to help Jabu as we believe that he still has a lot to contribute in the soccer field. And if he can manage to get fit then we will make a final decision. The past is the past and Jabu has learnt his lessons. He has been doing well and deserves another chance. The decision is not is for the club and Jabu only, but for the country as a whole.”

Winnie: Malema changing politics landscape

Image

Johannesburg-Winnie Madikizela-Mandela said on Sunday that EFF leader Julius Malema had not approached her to join his party, according to a report.

“No he hasn’t not at all…. I have not even seen him since he [started the Economic Freedom Fighters]. I belong to the African National Congress. I am the ANC,” she was quoted by the Sunday Independent newspaper as saying.

According to the newspaper, Madikizela-Mandela said she had known Malema would do something after he was expelled from the ANC.

“I can’t blame Julius for what he has done because we, the ANC, are responsible for that. I cautioned my organisation at the time.”  She reportedly said she felt Malema should have rather been ”contained” within the ANC, as now, with him outside the party: “He can do more damage”.

“We would be foolish to think he is not a player or that he is not changing the political landscape in some way. These are very dangerous and worrying times.”

EFF berets selling like fat cakes in winter- report

Image

The Economic Freedom Fighters has started running out of stock of its signature red berets, according to a report.

Berets were even being snatched off members’ heads as support for Julius Malema’s party swelled, City Press newspaper reported on Sunday.

It reported that EFF members could be seen wearing the red berets on street corners, public places, hangout spots and even at funerals, where they were recruiting new members.

One of its leaders, Andile Mngxitama was quoted as saying: “We are replacing money with people. Wherever we go, there is excitement that is generated.

“If you wear a red beret, you get stopped every other second. It doesn’t happen if you wear an ANC or Agang T-shirt.”

He told the newspaper that demand for the red berets “generally exceeds supply”.

Northern Cape co-ordinator Mbuyiselo April complained that the province’s stock had run out.

North West provincial convenor Alfred Mutsi said berets were being stolen from people’s heads.

“When we can’t give people berets, they just grab them off our heads and run away,” he was quoted as saying.

Brickz is loving and caring, says ex

Image

AS KWAITO star Brickz spent another weekend in prison, one of his ex-girlfriends was left heartbroken. Brickz, real name Sipho Ndlovu, appeared at the Roodepoort magistrate’s court on Friday to continue his bail application.

His case was postponed to tomorrow. But in the packed gallery was a heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend, Lindi Nkosi. Lindi and Brickz share a six-year-old child. She said she is saddened by the allegations of rape against him. “That’s not like him. He can’t do that, he’s a good and caring guy,” Lindi said. She said she will stand by him even though they are no longer together.

“He’s the father of my child. He fully supports my child and I’m here to support him,” she said. Asked if he was the father of her unborn child, Lindi said it was her husband’s child. “I have moved on in life and my husband understands and accepts that Brickz is the father of my child. He has no problem with me supporting him,” she said. Lindi said she has been attending the case since the day he started appearing in court. When he was led down to the holding cells, she went to hug him. The two stayed together in Protea, Soweto, shortly after Brickz’s relationship ended with TV star Lebo “Elle” Tisane.

Brickz’s lawyer Isaac Mokgopi argued that he should be released on bail. “My client is not a flight risk. The mere fact that he knows the victim is not sufficient enough to deny him bail,” said Mokgopi. He said Brickz was willing to surrender his passport to court. The State prosecutor argued against bail, saying he’s a threat to the victim and witnesses.
