Saxonwold residents are now threatening legal action should the City of Johannesburg give the green light to an illegally built mansion situated within the multimillion-rand Gupta compound.

Neighbours of the Guptas are now demanding compensation, decreed in a council building ordinance, for the “loss of value, privacy and amenity” to their homes and lifestyles, with some no longer able to enjoy their pools and gardens because of what they call the “triple-storey monstrosity”.

Malema slaughters first ox

3703049531
Marikana – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema slaughtered an ox in Marikana on Saturday ahead of the launch of his political party.

Malema, dressed in a red party T-shirt, red beret, red trousers, red shoes and dark sunglasses walked to the ox inside a trailer.

“Where is a rope? You must tie it up here,” he said pointing to a corner of the trailer.

“I am going to kill the first one, the rest is for you.”

The ox was tied and Malema stabbed it in the neck with a knife.

“I told you I am going to kill it,” he said pushing the knife deep into the animal.

The ox fell down and died.

Men pulled the ox out of the trailer and cut its throat.

“That’s that,” he said as blood streamed from the ox.

He dropped the knife washed his hands and left.

Men skinned the animal while waiting for seven others to be slaughtered.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said there was nothing special about the number eight.

“This is the number of cattle we have, [there is] nothing special about it.”

He explained that in African culture cattle were supposed killed in such a way that they would not suffer.

“The animal must not suffer. That is an important aspect of the tradition.”

He said the meat would be eaten on Sunday.

“A new baby is born, we are going to feast tomorrow [Sunday].”

Krejcir denies association

b1277aa00772441dadffb72149f9a31e
Johannesburg – Czech fugitive and businessman Radovan Krejcir denied any association with a man who was shot and killed in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg on Saturday.

Police have identified the man as Bassam Issa.

“I did not have any association with the man, I only [knew] him as a resident of Bedfordview,” Krejcir told Sapa.

Earlier, Eyewitness News reported that the man was an associate of Krejcir’s.

“I only know him as a lonely man, who was always alone. I feel sorry for him but what can we do,” Krejcir added.

He said he was woken up by the news of Issa’s death and reports of his apparent association to him.

“You must not lie to people, I don’t know this man. We [didn’t] have any deals or business together.”

The 51-year-old man was killed in a shoot-out in Smith Street, Bedfordview.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said Issa was gunned down while waiting at a robot in his car.

“The car [an Audi Q7] stopped at the robots and a Ford Ranger stopped next to him and opened fire. The victim tried to retaliate,” Mogale said.

“The Ranger fled the scene shortly after.”

Paramedics declared Issa dead on the scene.

Police were investigating but no suspects or leads were immediately being pursued.

Minister to pay for rugby player’s misdiagnosis

339cb0482597473f824468e739d749cf
Johannesburg – The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ruled that the minister of defence must pay damages after a botched surgery on an up-and-coming rugby player at 1 Military Hospital, the Saturday Citizen reported.

The amount of compensation has not yet been determined.

In 2007, Michiel de Goede, then a matric pupil, ruptured a tendon in his knee during a school rugby match. He had been offered a contract with the Sharks and was set to begin a professional rugby career the following year.

According to the report, De Goede went to the hospital for treatment but he was misdiagnosed with a sprained knee, and left with a bandage.

Eight days later, a military orthopaedic surgeon operated on his knee, after meeting De Goede for the first time as he was being wheeled into theatre.

In 2008, after undergoing another operation in the same hospital by a different doctor, he was set to start his contract with the Sharks, but the team’s biokineticist realised De Goede’s patella was in the wrong position.

He was referred to a knee specialist surgeon, who operated again and found that De Goede had developed progressive osteoarthritis. The damage to his knee was irreparable, and he would never be able to play rugby again.

EFF to slaughter 8 cows at party’s launch

3703049531
Johannesburg – The slaughtering of eight cows will mark the entry of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) into South Africa’s political landscape in Marikana, North West, on Saturday, the party has announced.

“We are slaughtering on Saturday and launch on Sunday,” EFF leader Julius Malema’s spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said on Friday.

He said the ceremony would be at a hill at the Nkaneng informal settlement where police shot dead 34 people, many of them striking miners, last August.

“We will not rest until economic emancipation, a living wage and better working conditions have been achieved… Marikana is a turning point. It exposed how the ANC was prepared to defend the capitalists,” Ndlozi said.

Malema, once an outspoken supporter of President Jacob Zuma and president of the ANC Youth League, formed the party after being expelled from the ANC.

The EFF received its registration certificate from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Monday.

According to its constitution, the EFF is a radical, left-wing, anti-capitalist, and anti-imperialist movement.

The party claims it provides clear and cogent alternatives to post-colonial economic systems, which in many countries had kept the oppressed under colonial domination.

The party advocates the expropriation of South Africa’s land without compensation, and the nationalisation of mines, banks, and other strategic sectors of the economy.

The EFF promises free quality education, healthcare, houses, and sanitation.

Ndlozi said Sunday’s gathering had been approved by the Madibeng municipality, and the police had been informed.
