Johannesburg-Paramedics responded to the Caravan Park on Frikkie Meyer Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark just before 6pm on Saturday evening where there was reports of a drowning of a young man.
“When they arrived at the scene, they found around 200 people that appeared to have been having a party at the river side” Er24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said.
According to witness reports, the 22 year old young man had gone into the water and he had not been able to climb out again.
Jackson said it remains to be investigated as to why he could not get out of the river or as to how long he had been submerged before he was noticed to have been missing and in the river. Paramedics also explained that the water was very cold, and that this may also have lead to the young man not being able to remove himself.
“The SAPS rescue divers were called to the scene and they removed the lifeless body of the young man from the river” she said.
Paramedics assessed him for any signs of life but sadly there was no more that could be done to revive him and he was declared dead.-TDN
