Danny Jordaan has been named as the new South African Football Association president after the elections were held at Helderfontein Estate on Saturday.

Jordaan went head-to-head with Mandla Mazibuko in the bid to replace outgoing president Kirsten Nematandani and the former has won the battle.

Announcing the news via SAFA’s official Twitter account, the association said: “Danny Jordaan is new Safa pres with 162 to 88.”

Jordaan played an instrumental part in helping South Africa in their successful bid for the 2010 FIFA World Cup – the first World Cup on African soil.

Has has also worked for FIFA in various capacities as well as recently being advisor to Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Issa Hayatou.

The elections of the vice presidents were also concluded, with Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, Lucas Nhlapo and Elvis Shishana getting the nod, while Mazibuko had withdrawn from the race.

An earlier Tweet from SAFA read, “Mandla Mazibuko indicating he is withdrawing from the Safa Vice President position as voting for the VPs continues.”

They then confirmed the outcome, adding, “Safa Vice Presidents Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, Lucas Nhlapo, Elvis Shishana.”
