Madibeng-During a Special Council Meeting held on Thursday, the Executive Mayor of Madibeng, Cllr Poppy Magongwa had to present a report compiled by the Ministerial Task Team into the affairs of Madibeng Local Municipality to the Council.
“During the course of the meeting, the ANC requested a caucus which was granted by the Speaker Cllr. Buti Makhongela. When the meeting resumed, the Mayor was given the opportunity to present the report to Council, instead she requested the Chief Whip of Council to present the outcome of the ANC Caucus” DA Tiaan Kotze said.
“To the surprise of the DA, the ANC made a recommendation to Council to reject the Ministerial Task Team report, without the report serving before Council. The Democratic Alliance argued that Council could not accept recommendations without the report of the Ministerial Task Team serving before Council as per section 60 of the Rules of Order. This was rejected by the Speaker” Kotze said.
DA said it is clear to that ANC councillors in Madibeng will do anything in their power to prevent the report to be tabled in Council.
The DA said they regard this decision as a deliberate protection of individuals allegedly involved in corruption and in maladministration.
The Minister of Cooperative Governance, Richard Baloyi announced the outcome of his ministerial investigation to councillors and senior officials of the Municipality in an informal meeting in April 2013.
“The DA was informed that the Premier of North West, Thandi Modise and the new Minister of Cooperative Governance, Lechesa Tsenoli, instructed the Executive Mayor to present the Report of the Ministerial Task Team to Council” he said.
The Madibeng Democratic Alliance has now request the DA Leader in the North West Legislature Chris Hattingh to request the North West Premier and the Minister of Cooperative Governance to intervene in the Madibeng affairs.-TDN
