Johannesburg – A man was arrested on Monday in connection with the rape of his 12-year-old sister in Dobsonville, west of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

The 19-year-old was arrested in Doornkop after a relative reported him to police, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The relative took her to a doctor when she appeared to be ill.

“[During the visit] the doctor pointed out that the girl was sexually active and that she had been for a long time. They then started interviewing her,” Makhubela said.

“According to the doctor it looks like it has been a continuous thing for the past 10 years,” he said.

The girl was currently being treated in hospital.

The man was in police custody and would appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on rape charges, Makhubela said.
