Stuart Baxter was happy with most of what he saw from Kaizer Chiefs last night, but insists there is still plenty of work to be done.
The Amakhosi beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 1-0 in the season-opener at Mbombela Stadium courtesy of Bernard Parker’s early strike, although it took some heroics from Itumeleng Khune late on to secure the three points.
“We knew this was not going to be an easy game,” Baxter said after the game. “We came out of the blocks in the first 20 minutes with some fantastic football. [But] as the game settled and we realised we were a goal ahead I think they got back into the game a little bit more.
“We tended to play a little bit more in transition – that’s nothing that came from the bench; I think it’s just that the players got out of the blocks so quickly and then it settled.
