The National Union of Mineworkers won’t stop recruiting at Lonmin Plc (LMI), where today it ceases to be the majority labor group and must vacate bullet-marked offices after a pact with the third-biggest platinum producer expires.

Johannesburg – Former ANCYL president Julius Malema is considering taking legal action over a scathing attack on him by the league’s Gauteng chairperson Lebogang Maile at a media conference, The Star reported on Wednesday.
At the press conference on Tuesday, Maile blamed Malema for the ANC Youth League’s financial problems.
“Where is the money of the ANC Youth League? The ANC Youth League owes [creditors] more than R50m.”
He also accused Malema of being a “drunkard and a womaniser”.
Malema reportedly told the newspaper he planned to sue Maile, as his veiled allegation that Malema had embezzled ANCYL funds bordered on defamation.
He demanded that Maile retract the statement and apologise, and denied that he was a womaniser.
“I am not a womaniser; I am a 32-year-old man with one child. I do not have a girlfriend,” he was quoted as telling the newspaper.
“Maile is 33-years old or more with no less than six children. He is expecting twins as we speak.”

CAPE TOWN – Despite more allegations emerging against him, the family of the Paarl warrant officer accused of repeatedly raping a teenage girl said on Tuesday they remain convinced he is innocent. It’s alleged he raped the 14-year-old girl at her home in Paarl East several times earlier this year. The policeman’s bail application was postponed in the Paarl Magistrate Court on Tuesday for further investigation after it emerged there may be another four victims. Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) officials believe the officer may be linked to similar cases involving minors. The policeman’s brother, who asked not to be named, said he doesn’t believe any of the accusations. “I am very disappointed in this case. It seems as though the investigator in this case is unprofessional. But we are positive that he will get bail.” IPID’s Lusanda Booi told the court evidence was found at the scene, but officials still needed to verify it. (Edited by Tamsin Wort)

North West Provincial Government has lined up a series of service delivery activities across the province as part of the celebrating 67 years of community service that former President and world icon Nelson Mandela rendered. According to Premier Thandi Modise this will be a fitting tribute to celebrate the legacy of Mandela who turns 95 tomorrow.
In encouraging people to be active citizens by participating in community service in their communities, Premier Modise said that Mandela Month was also an opportunity to promote social cohesion, national healing and nation building.“Madiba has united us in prayer over the past few weeks. We could all make a huge difference by emulating his legacy and taking time out of our scheduled to inspire change in our communities by doing something good,” stressed Modise
The Premier will be accompanied by MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison will spend her 67 minutes laying bricks and planting trees at Marang Estate housing development project in Mahikeng.
The R3,5 billion integrated human settlement project will create employment and deliver 1200 community residential units and 2000 bonded houses over the next seven years in the provincial capital.
Other Members of the Executive Council will lead activities that include renovation of a clinic and donation of school bags and uniforms at Kgokgole Primary School in Taung, cleaning and doing laundry at Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp, distribution of clothes in Ratanang and establishing a vegetable garden in Khuma near Stilfontein.
A prayer service for Tata Mandela who is in hospital will also be hosted by the provincial government in Tlhabane near Rustenburg.

PRETORIA –The Committee of Inquiry into the unscrupulous dealers in firearms and illegally operating firearms training institutions which was set up by the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa in May this year, is progressing well and work is in full swing in this regard.
The Committee of Inquiry focuses on allegations that certain firearm dealers are selling firearm competency certificates and licences. The certificates are allegedly being issued by non-accredited training facilities.
“It is further alleged that there was collusion between certain firearm dealers and South African Police Service’ Central Firearm Registry” Ministry spokesperson Zweli Mnisi.
The Minister’s reaffirmation that the Committee of Inquiry continues comes amid a call made by Gun Free South Africa for an immediate moratorium on the issuing of all firearm licences, permits and certificates until the work of the committee is completed.
“He emphasized that by placing a moratorium during the investigation, would be unnecessary because if there are any unscrupulous practices currently taking place; the Committee would be able to uncover them right away and where criminal activities are detected, police shall act swiftly as has been the case in the past week” Mnisi outlines.
The Minister urged Gun Free South Africa and other role-players in the industry to cooperate fully with the Committee so that any corruption or fraud which may exist is tackled collectively.
The Committee is also expected to inform the Minister if the problem is miniscule, endemic or systemic.
“Minister Mthethwa is aware and fully supportive of the current SAPS internal investigation and suspension of some senior officials within the Central Firearms Registry” he said.
Mnisi said the minister has assured South Africans that no stone will be left unturned during this investigation, reiterating that there would be no ‘untouchables’ and ‘no-go areas’ for the Committee.
The Minister added that he expected the Committee to ‘dig deep’ in order to uncover any hidden fraud and corruption perpetrated by firearm dealers, training institutions or members of the SAPS.
“The Minister has instructed the Committee to move as swiftly as possible and to provide him with regular briefings and interim reports”.
“Once it completes its final report, which will include findings and remedial steps, we will share with the public” Mnisi concludes.

The former Thanda captain has signed a two-year contract.

Bafana Bafana defender Anele Ngcongca is doubtful for this weekend’s Belgian Super Cup after suffering a minor back injury.
Ngcongca’s side Racing Genk, who won last season’s Belgian Cup, will take on Belgium Pro League winners Anderlecht this Sunday, but the Bafana right-back has yet to make a decision on whether he will play or not.
“The injury is not a big deal but lately I’ve been feeling back pain when I’m running,” the player says.
“But no decision has been on whether I will play or not. Tomorrow we are playing a friendly match against Malaga and I will only play the last 45 minutes of the match and the team medical staff will make a final decision after the match.”

Kaizer Chiefs have offered Ghanaian central defender Anthony Mensah a trial ahead of the new season.
The former Ajax FC in Ghana who also served as reserve player at Rayo Vallecano reserve in Spain trained with the Glamour Boys for the first time on Tuesday.
“I enjoyed training today. It was my first training and the guys were all friendly towards me. It is difficult to compare the training here to that of Spain as it was my first session with the team,” the 19-year-old tells the club’s website.
“I saw some intelligent moves from the players and we trained at a high level. I am happy to trial here. I know a lot about Kaizer Chiefs. I watched them on DSTV from home in Ghana from the age of 15.
“I am hoping to impress the Technical Team here and get an opportunity to play for one of the biggest sides in the continent,” adds Mensah, who has played for Ghana’s Under-17 and Under-20 national teams.

Kimberley – While a 10-man delegation, led by Executive Mayor, Agnes Ntlhangula, arrived in China on Sunday night already, Sol Plaatje councillors were totally unaware of the almost R1 million trip, which has been described as “nothing more than a glorified holiday”.
It is believed that on the eve of the departure, a special mayoral committee meeting was hurriedly called to inform committee members of the trip, which will see five councillors and five officials spending almost a week in the Hunan Province in China.
