A brave showing from the Limpopo side saw them emerging 3-2 winners over the Western Cape in a final Group A match played on Thursday (11 July 2013) at Idas Valley in Stellenbosch.
The result was enough to ensure that the Limpopo team finished as runners up in Group A. Western Cape had already secured top spot in Group A with three wins in their opening three matches.
Limpopo will be joined by KZN, Western Province and Mpumalanga in Friday’s two semi-final matches – both starting at 10h00 at the Idas Valley Stadium.
Western Cape will take on KwaZulu Natal, and in the other match Mpumalanga will lock horns with Limpopo.
Later in the day, at 15h00, there will be a third-place play off at the same venue.
The final will be played on Saturday, 13 July at the Coetzenberg Stadium at 15h00.
Limpopo and the Free State both ended on seven points from their four Group A matches, with Limpopo’s superior goal difference enough to see them through, thanks in no small part to their 3-0 win over Gauteng earlier in the day.
In Group B, a strong finish from KZN saw them topping the group with 10 points from their four matches, thanks to a 5-2 victory over the Northern Cape, who finished the match with nine men.
USSA (a combined University of South African team) had been hoping for a Northern Cape win, which would have seen them through.
But it was not to be for the university side who were eliminated from the tournament despite also ending with a 5-2 win, over the Eastern Cape.
