Taung-Not everyone has the skill or talent to write well. It’s an art through which one can express his or her most inner thoughts and thought process in words. Furthermore one needs a vocabulary through which he or she can explain exactly what they mean in a clear and coherent manner.
Most writers are keen observers and thinkers; soaking up their surroundings and formulating opinions.
Our crew took time out to speak to the new kid on the block, so setback and enjoy the ride while one of the best writers articulates his work on a jovial journey.
North West-born Maruping Phepheng wrote a book called “What happens In Hankoo” and its prose written with merit of euphony and precision.
A 36 year-old writer originates from Utlwanang Location, near Christiana in the North West province.
Phepheng said the love to read and exploring other new adventures virile him to come up with this book.
“There are several reasons that prompted me to be a writer; amongst them is my love to read. I have written “What Happens In Hankaroo…” because I wanted to contribute a product to the world’s readers” Phepheng said.
“The Duke” as Maruping Phepheng is affectionately known to the reading fraternity said he regard this as a social responsibility and by giving back to the community is the noblest thing to do.
“Discipline, Dedication and Determination have given me so much fun information and knowledge” he smiles.
Maruping Phepheng worked with one of the most worshipped writers and award-winning journalist, Sabata Mpho Mokae.
“Writing a book is something I did myself, but one needs guidance from the experienced in order to make it in the literary world. So not to be dithered, I worked with the award winning journalist and fellow author Sabata-Mpho Mokae. He read my manuscript and provided the necessary guidance” said Christiana-born author.
“What Happens In Hankaroo…” is my first work of fiction entailing everyday aspects of life. From love, lust, betrayal, loyalty, corruption, bribery and death; all played out by (what I hope are) believable characters, prompted by believable township story” he said.
Maruping said his objective in writing this book was to inform, teach and entertain the reader and will apply the same method in the future.
“I want everyone to have lots of fun while reading my work. I also seek to inspire more people to read and write through my work” he outlines.
Phepheng said his work is conventional and the youth make an important part of his book.
The main character is a young person himself, exudes greed and a penchant to use young, unemployed people to advance his own personal agenda to become rich quickly.
A 36 year-old man said he hope to publish a new book every year.
As a young black man who likes reading and writing a lot, Phepheng said he love playing around with words, and his literary giants are Martin Koboekae and Sabata-Mpho Mokae who both originate from his own hood of Utlwanang.
The book will be launched in Utlwanang Location, Christiana on Saturday at Le Rona Secondary School and commercing time is at 6pm.
