Oscar gets support from unlikely source

Johannesburg – Convicted drug trafficker Glen Agliotti has warned Oscar Pistorius and his legal team to prepare for what he told eNCA would be a very ugly trial.

The Blade Runner, accused of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day, is set to return to court 4 June.

He is currently out on bail of R1m.

Agliotti faced prosecution from the same team who are now trying Pistorius.

“I believe they will do anything and everything within their power to try and take Pistorius down, because it’s a feather in their cap, it’s an endorsement behind their names,” Agliotti told eNCA.

“South Africans don’t forgive and they don’t forget, so unfortunately for me and for Oscar, you’re almost dead in the water in South Africa because there will always be a stigma attached to you,” he added.

When asked for their comment, NPA spokesperon Medupe Simasiku told the TV news channel: “We will make sure that every case is proved beyond reasonable doubt so that when it comes out on the other side, everything is fair and justice is served.”

Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Saturday that Pistorius’s lawyers have demanded answers from the police and prosecutors after pictures of the bathroom and toilet where Steenkamp was shot, were leaked to Sky News.

Earlier, in an exclusive interview with CNN, Pistorius’s uncle Arnold said Oscar had grown a beard, because he did not want to be recognised and had surrounded himself with photos of Steenkamp.

“He’s got photos in his room, photos all over the place. He’s housebound, you know. He doesn’t go out in public places.”
