Johannesburg-The South African Football Association (SAFA) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Mbuli family and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) following the passing away of veteran broadcaster Vuyo Mbuli. 

Mbuli passed away after collapsing while watching a Super Rugby match between the Free State Cheetahs and Queensland Reds at the Free Stadium on Saturday night. He was rushed to hospital and was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Former 2010 Fifa World Cup Local Organising Committee CEO, Dr Danny Jordaan said he was saddened by this news. “It was with great shock to learn of Vuyo’s passing away. We have worked with Vuyo on many occasions while bidding and during the 2010 Fifa World Cup. He always displayed greatest professionalism in everything he did,” said Dr Jordaan.

“His passing away is a great loss to South Africa and the world of broadcasting. We will always remember him for his cheerfulness while presenting Morning Live on SABC. We send our condolences to his family and pray that God may give them the strength to endure this untimely loss.”

SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani was equally shocked at the passing away of Mbuli. “It’s at times like this that grope for words to express our feelings at this loss. Vuyo was a great personality and a true professional. Above all, he was a great fan and admirer of our national football team. We pray for his family to remain strong as they mourn his passing away.”

Nematandani also expressed similar words of comfort for the SABC.

Johannesburg – Businessman Atul Gupta will face disciplinary charges for misconduct and for embarrassing the ANC following the Waterkloof air force base debacle.

The leaders of his branch in Ward 117, Joburg, which includes Saxonwold, Rosebank and Parktown last night decided to press charges against him for the incident, which saw a plane full of Gupta wedding guests land at the base.

Police VIP blue lights were used in cars ferrying the guests to the wedding venue in Sun City.

Branch secretary Tebogo Khaas has confirmed that the branch executive committee decided to go ahead with the charges.

Gupta will be formally notified about these as well as the date of the hearing as soon as the disciplinary committee has been appointed, he said.

Atul Gupta is the only of the Gupta brothers whose membership of the branch is still in good standing.

Government has launched its own investigation into the matter and a preliminary report was concluded on Tuesday.

Officials and ministers discussed the report on Saturday, and promised to have a press conference soon to make public the findings.

Khaas sent a letter to branch chairperson and businessman Sipho Sithole last Monday asking for disciplinary proceedings againt Gupta. 

The letter was also sent to Joburg regional secretary Dada Morero and Gauteng ANC secretary David Makhura.

In the letter, he said Gupta has “intentionally, or through wilful negligence encouraged others to use his association and close proximity to the senior leadership of the ANC” to effect the landing, which was irregular.

Gupta’s spokesperson, Gary Naidoo, earlier said the businessman was unaware of any action against him, and was attending a wedding in India.

Johannesburg – Well-known TV presenter Vuyo Mbuli has died.

Eyewitness News reported that Mbuli collapsed at the Free State stadium on Friday night while watching the rugby game between the Cheetahs and the Reds.

Some reports stated that he had a heart attack.

Mbuli was rushed to hospital and he passed away on Sunday morning.

Mbuli made his television debut in 1993 and spent the largest part of his career working at the SABC, becoming a popular face on morning shows.

Free State Stars beat Black Leopards 3-2 at Goble Park on Saturday, resulting in Leopards being relegated to the National First Division.

Leopards knew that they had to win to have any hope of staying in the country’s top division. Their form this season has been dismal, winning only 2 games away from home this season.

Stars, on the other hand, were playing for a place in the top 8 in the division. Their last outing was a 2-2 draw with rivals Bloem Celtic. They had an unbeaten home record against Leopards before the game, winning twice and drawing twice.

Ea Lla Koto did not get off to the best start, however. Mongezi Bobe was the early hero for Leopards as he swept home from the penalty area after Rodney Ramagalela’s cross from the right wing. The score was 1-0 after just 7 minutes.

Stars continued to play second fiddle to Leopards, as Samuel Mabunda attempted a long-range shot on 16 minutes, and they had a free kick shortly thereafter thanks to Dove Wome’s handball. It came to nothing though, and Stars began to get themselves back into the game.

Daniel Cardoso took a shot from 25 yards out, which went fizzing over the crossbar. Coldrin Coetzee then had the chance to restore parity with a free kick but he bent his shot too far around the right post.

The game saw several chances in quick succession, as Dove Wome’s shot from outside the area hit the bar on 32 minutes. Wome was then brought down inside the box by Ernort Dzaga, to earn Stars a penalty. Kennedy Mweene calmly placed the ball in the bottom right corner to go into the break 1-1.

The second half started relatively quietly. Mongezi Bobe took a free kick shortly before the hour mark but his shot went past the right post.

The next act of the game featured possibly the best player on the day, Dove Wome. He received the ball from Anver Esterhuizen and slotted home into the middle of the goal to give Stars the lead.

The game entered a period where both teams looked to outwit their opponents rather than overpower them. Neither side committed too many men forward and the game looked a bit stale, until Dove Wome gave Stars the spark once more.

His long-range shot on 71 minutes was tipped behind by Maphaha, and from the resulting corner Anver Esterhuizen headed the ball into the top right corner to make it 3.

Wome had a few more shots, most of which went over the bar, before Mongezi Bobe had his shot saved at the other end of the pitch. The game entered the final 10 minutes, which proved to be a bit frenetic.

After several fouls were given away by both sides, giving the game a short-tempered edge, Raymond Monama tried to get Leopards back in the game with a shot from 20 yards out.

Just two minutes later, Leopards had their goal and it came through the boot of David Zulu. He received a cross from Mongezi Bobe and shot home from around the penalty spot.

Extra time seemed to drag on for Stars, as they defended a wave of attack, but they held on for a 3-2 win to go 8th on the log. As for Leopards, the loss sees them relegated from the PSL.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter admitted his team played baldy on the day in their 1-0 loss to the University of Pretoria but believes the Mbombela pitch was largely to blame for their poor performance.

“I don’t think we did a lot right tonight,” said Baxter.

“In the first half I think we opened quite well, I think the pitch was difficult for both teams and it was difficult to get a passing game going.

“We did quite well initially, we created three or four chances and if we had taken one of those maybe the game would have been different.

“We made poor decisions on the ball and the game opened up which caused problems.

“A cause for concern is that we don’t turn our chances to goals ration into goals. I have to say that I don’t know how much it was the pitch, how much it was the technique. I would like to think we are better than the finishing we saw this evening.”

Still, despite his side’s bad showing Baxter was happy with his team’s overall performance during the season which saw them lift the league title.

“We have somehow dragged ourselves over line, and I say that with all due respect to the job the players have done for the full year but tonight I had a problem being happy after the game because I am a bad loser,” added Baxter.

“I think we have to dissociate from a poor performance tonight which it was and associate into what has been a fantastic year for Kaizer Chiefs and the supporters and players.

“My feelings are I am proud of the season, I am not proud of the performance tonight, but I am proud of the season and the players deserve a load of credit as does the club.”

Zeerust-A police officer sentenced to three years yesterday by Zeerust Magistrate’s Court.

“Warrant Officer Ofentse Joel Gaotime (45) was sanctioned to three years imprisonment on Friday for livestock theft amounting to R10 000 00”.  

“The owner of the calves allegedly received a tip-off from member of community about commission of crime taking place at hís farm” colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

On December 2010 the owner of the calves allegedly received a tip-off about two people stealing his calves. He allegedly went to investigate and found three calves loaded in a minibus.

“Police were informed and through investigations, they found the said vehicle parked in Ikageleng, at Gaotime’s house with three stolen calves inside” Mokgwabone said. 

Three suspects were immediately arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen livestock. 

“One of the suspects was discharged as he could not be linked to the case while the other one was sentenced to one year imprisonment of which was suspended for five years in 2011” he said. 

The police would like to send out a message that crime does not pay as they can also arrest one of their own and that criminal activities will not tolerated within South African Police Service.

Taung-North West police are investigating of ATM bombing after FNB machine was bombed in Taung.

Police said they do not have more details about how much amount of money has been stolen from the machine, but said they will reveal more after investigations.

“The incident happened at the early hours of today and for now we can’t shed any information as Forensic police were at the scene” sergeant Kelebogile Moiloa said.

“Up to so far no one has been arrested and police are investigating. We also waiting for FNB to determine how much has been stolen before we could confirm figures” Moiloa said.

The ATM was allegedly bombed and according to other reports, the machine was loaded yesterday.

Mahikeng-The North West Committee on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims has finalised investigations into 102 disputes involving traditional leadership and presented its recommendations for consideration, North West Premier Thandi Modise told the Portfolio Committee on Provincial Affairs and Finance in the Provincial Legislature on Friday.

Premier Modise has committed to brief the portfolio committee on the findings of the committee after she has applied her mind to the recommendations of the committee.

Although Premier Modise has in terms of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act 41 of 2003 up to 60 days to study the report and apply her mind to the findings and recommendations of the committee, she has committed to finalise the matters a lot sooner than the maximum period set by the Act that established the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims. The Commission’s Provincial Committee is scheduled to meet with Kgosi James Ramokoka and the Ba-Phalane Royal Family on Tuesday to gather information on the history of traditional leadership of Ba Baphalane, their customary law of succession and confirm their genealogy.

The meeting follows the 22 March 2013 North West High Court ruling by Honourable Judge Landman that dismissed with costs an application for interdict by Kgosi James Ramokoka preventing the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims from investigating, conducting hearings, compiling and submitting a report in respect of the dispute regarding the chieftaincy over the Baphalane Tribe lodged by Bosman Noah Ramokoka.

Meanwhile, The Provincial Committee has appealed to representatives of the Bahurutshe Ba-Moiloa Boo Ramotshere Royal Family not to proceed with arrangements for inauguration of a successor to the late Kgosi Monnaamere J Godfrey Moiloa on15 June 2013 until it has finalised its investigations as to who should be the rightful heir to the chieftainship and Premier Modise has issued the heir with a recognition certificate.

The appeal is in line with a High Court ruling that directed that the current regent should remain at the helms of the affairs of the tribe until investigations are finalised and a recognition certificate is issued by the Premier.

The Commission for Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims was established in terms of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act to restore the dignity and integrity of the traditional communities and the entire institution of traditional leadership across the country.
