Result: Chiefs 1-1 SuperSport
Date: 15 May 2013
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs were crowned ABSA Premiership champions after they played out a 1-1 draw with SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
Chiefs made a bright start to the game while SuperSport looked to soak up the early pressure and Lehlohonolo Majoro sent a header wide from a corner in the seventh minute.
Siphiwe Tshabalala then lashed a long-range strike off target six minutes later before Matsatsantsa tried to find some kind of response but couldn’t get past the stubborn Chiefs defenders.
Mark Haskins gave Itumeleng Khune a simple save with a deflected strike while Ronwen Williams had to come off his line to deny Reneilwe Letsholonyane who had stolen possession in midfield.
Bernard Parker smashed a shot into the side netting just before the half-hour mark while Majoro beat the offside trap five minutes later but couldn’t beat Williams from a tight angle.
Siboniso Gaxa should have put the hosts ahead just before the break when the goalkeeper failed to punch a Tshabalala free-kick clear but the defender blasted over the crossbar as the score remained locked at 0-0.
Chiefs would go on to take the lead just minutes into the second period though as Willard Katsande fired a cross into the area and Majoro fired home after Williams failed to deal with the ball.
Majoro looked a constant threat while Kermit Erasmus worked Khune at the other end in the 61st minute.
SuperSport started to get into the game with George Maluleka firing at goal from long-range before Ashley Hartog forced Khune to tip his header away from the top corner.
Sibusiso Zuma would have a goal chalked off for offside in the 73rd minute while Williams managed to grab a Tshabalala free-kick just ahead of Tefu Mashamaite.
The final few minutes would be made tense when Zuma caught the defence napping to latch onto a flighted pass and he picked out the bottom corner to make it 1-1.
Sameehg Doutie then saw his close-range effort blocked and Maluleka fired the rebound over as Chiefs looked a little shaky but they managed to hold on and secure the crown.
