North West union leader shot dead

Rustenburg-A North West regional organiser of trade union Amcu was shot dead in Rustenburg on Saturday, eNews Channel Africa reported.

 

According to the report, police said four men approached the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) official at a tavern near Amplats’ Khomanani shaft.

 

The man, who cannot be named until his family have been told of his death, was reportedly shot four times.

 

He was expected to testify before the Marikana Commission of Inquiry into the deaths of 44 people killed in violence related to a strike at Lonmin’s Marikana mine in August last year.
