Rustenburg-Tlhabane Police have launched a massive manhunt for 10 suspects who are thought to be responsible for two Absa Automated teller machines (ATM) that were bombed at Tlhabane Township outside Rustenburg.
“The bombing allegedly took place in the early hours of this morning at about 02:00am” captain Amanda Funani said.
“It is allegedly that the two ATMs bombed are next to the Caltex garage and there was an armed security officer who was on duty in the garage when the incident occurred” police said.
Police said according to allegations, the suspects were using a blue unlicensed BMW during the robbery. One suspect allegedly approached the security guard and pointed him with a firearm.
“He allegedly instructed him to lie down. It is alleged that the suspect also demanded the firearm belonging to the security guard”.
The suspects allegedly bombed and two machines and fled the scene with the undisclosed amount of money afterwards.
