North West police are searching for a man who repeatedly raped a 92-year-old woman in Mmakau in the early hours of Sunday.

 

“The Gogo’s front door was locked by chains, but forcefully broken, in order for the suspect to gain entry,” said Captain Adele Myburgh.

 

She said the man repeatedly raped the woman for three hours before fleeing on foot.

 

The elderly woman was severely traumatised and taken to hospital.

A robbery suspect beaten by mob justice

Mmabatho-North West police were called to a scene where a suspect was give a wrath of justce by angry communitImagey members after business robbery.

A 37 year-old man and his accomplice allegedly pounced on a owner of a bottle store in Montshioa.

Police said two suspects produced a firearm and a knife and ordered the owner to handed over cash.

“Two suspects allegedly robbed a bottle store undisclosed money and one was arrested by angry mob” captain Adele Myburgh said.

One suspect was chased after by bottle store employees after they fled the scene said police.

“Another suspect is still at large and a 37 year-old suspect was allegedly assaulted and is in ICU at a local hospital” Myburgh said.

A firearm used in a crime was handed over to police and injured suspect is under police guard at a hospital.

Police investigation continues and the suspect will appear before Mmabatho Magistrate Court as soon when he is fit.

Premier Modise calls on police to investigate whether abducted woman was not raped

 

North West Premier Thandi Modise has called on police to investigate whether the Ventersdorp woman who was allegedly abducted for eight days and assaulted during her ordeal had not been raped. This follows the arrest of a man in connection with the alleged crime.

 

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible violence against women and call on women who are in abusive relationships to speak out so that they are could be assisted before it’s too late,” stressed Premier Modise.

 

In commenting police for the arrest Premier Modise added that there is no place in our society for those who dehumanise women and treat them as objects upon which they could vent their emotions.

 

According to Captain Adele Myburgh, the man was arrested on Friday for the alleged crime and is due to appear in court on Monday.

 

Captain Myburgh said that the woman who claimed that she was assaulted with a spade, throttled with a tie and locked inside the suspect’s home .She was rescued by her family after they had launched a search and found her at the arrested suspect’s home.

 

The woman has since been taken for medical examination and treatment.

Premier Modise calls for intensified united action to protect elderly against rape

 

Perpetrators of sexual violence against the vulnerable, particularly elderly women should have no place in society, North West Premier Thandi Modise said on Sunday.

 

Expressing shock about the rape of a 92 year old Mmakau granny, who was allegedly repeated raped in the early hours of Sunday morning, Premier Modise reiterated her earlier call for intensified united action against crime and the scourge of rape.

 

“When the elderly are living in fear of being raped by children old enough to be their grandchildren in some instances, society should stand up to stamp the tide of the scourge of rape and say enough is enough,” said Modise.

 

The Premier added that crime was eroding the moral fibre and needs to be fought on all fronts.

 

She also called on the community to assist police in their investigations to ensure that the perpetrator responsible for the heinous crime is behind bars.

 

Modise also called on crime prevention structures such as Community Policing Forums, street committees and neighbourhood watch to look into providing elderly women who are staying on their own with whistles which they could blow to alert their neighbourhood of the threat of the scourge of rape and other crimes in their homes.According to police, the perpetrator had forcefully broken the granny’s front door which was chain locked in order to gain entry.

 

Spokesperson for the North West Police, Captain Adele Myburgh said the man repeatedly raped the woman for three hours before fleeing on foot.

 

Myburgh said that the elderly woman who was severely traumatised was taken to hospital.

Phokeng cemetery rape despicable and shocking-Premier Modise

 

The rape of a woman at a cemetery is not only despicable and shocking but highlights the need for intensified united action against the scourge of rape, North West Premier Thandi Modise said on Sunday.

 

In condemning the incident, Premier Modise called on women to desist from going to places that increase their vulnerability such as shebeens and pubs as most perpetrators tend to target women who were either drunk and or those who are asking for lifts from strangers.

 

“Young girls and women should carefully consider those that they choose to go out with at night and the places they go to for entertainment given that not even infants are safe from sexual violence,” added Modise. 

 

 According to police a 20-year-old victim was at a tavern in Phokeng, when she was forced to accompany a 37-year-old suspect, known to her, to the local grave yard on Saturday.

 

The man apparently then forced the woman to undress and then raped her.

 

 

 

The matter was reported to the police on the same day and he was subsequently arrested.

 

 

 

The man was expected to appear in the Phokeng Magistrates court on Monday

 

 

 

 

Police Reservist arrested for robbery

Mmabatho-North West police arrested one of their own after robbery.

A 28 year man was walking home from a nearby tavern in Magogoe Tar village in Mmabatho when picked up by a black VW Golf.

He was allegedly hitch-hiking in the early hours of Saturday.

“A victim was allegedly give a lift by a VW Citi Golf driver near Letlamoreng Dam. Along the way a passanger in a back seat asked a victim to hand over his cellphone,cash and a credit card” captain Adele Myburgh said.

A 28 year-old man told police that he could identify perpetrators and the car used during the commission of crime said police.

“A 29 year-old man was arrested the following day. It was discovered that the perpetrator is working as a police reservist in Boshoek police station” Myburgh said.

Police Reservist will appear at Mmabatho Magistrate Court on Monday.

Five suspects arrested for stolen firearm

Delareyville-Police arrested five suspects after illegal firearm and ammunition found in their possession.

Deleray poloce were patrolling and stopped and search a BMW. During the police search, a firearm was discovered in a boot of a vehicle.

“Five suspects aged between 28-42 respectively were arrested after police discovered a firearm in the boot of their car” captain Adele Myburgh said.

“The firearm discovered was allegedly stolen from a police officer in an accident back in 2011” she said.

Captain Myburgh said the pistol discovered allegedly belong to a member of SAPS who is based in Schweizer-Reneke police station.

“He was involved in an accident in Wesselsbron back in 2011 and is firearm was stolen” Myburgh said.

The suspects will appear before Delareyville Magistrate Court on Monday for being in possession of illegal firearm.

Pedestrian killed in an accident in Wolmaranstad

Wolmaranstad-North West police are investigating a culpable homicide case after a 34 year-old pedestrian hit by a car.

The incident took place on R504 road between Wolmaranstad and Leeudoringstad.

“A 34 year-old mna was killed in an accident after hit by a car. The driver of a vehicle failed to stop and drove away after incident” captain Adele Myburgh said.

“Police investigation continues and a case of culpable homicide was opened” she said.

A man killed in a “Hit and Run” truck

Potchefstroom- A 66 year-old man perish in an accident after knocked down by a truck.

Police said a man was walking next to the road on N12 between potchefstroom and Klerksdorp pushing his bycicle.

“A man was allegedly knocked down by a truck while walking along the road in Potchestroom” captain Adele Myburgh said.

“He was confirmed dead on the scene and the truck driver did not stop” My burgh said.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened and police request anyone who have information that could lead in locating the truck driver to come forward.

A man arrested for smothering his girlfriend in Ventersdorp

Ventersdorp-North West police arrested a 41 year-old man for kidnapping and attempted murder in Tshing, near Ventersdorp.

The arrest came after a 29 year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped by her boyfriend.

“It is alleged that on Friday a 41 year-old man went to his girlfriend’s house and abducted. her” captain Adele Myburgh said.

He allegedly took her to his house at RDP house police said.

“On arrival an argurment allegedly ensued between the two and that led a boyfriend to be obstreperous” Myburgh said.

It is alleged that a boyfriend assaulted her with spade,tied and smothered her with tie.

“A 29 year-old woman was rescued on Monday by her family and a 41 year-old man was arrested” she said.

He will appear before magistrate at Ventersdorp on Kidnapping, assault and attempted of murder charges.

Police investigations continue.
