A woman has been arrested for child neglect after her missing son was found on a street near Orkney, North West police said on Saturday.

The woman was arrested on Friday when she reported her son missing, said Captain Adle Myburgh.

A resident found the boy, believed to be around three years old, on a street on Thursday night.

She took him to the community service centre.

Myburgh said the toddler has been placed in protective care.
