ANC deny any business links with CAR

Image

South Africa’s governing ANC has denied involvement in alleged business deals linked to the deaths of 13 soldiers.

The soldiers were killed in the Central African Republic (CAR) last month, when rebels seized the capital in a coup to depose President Francois Bozize.

Media reports say the South African troops were guarding the president in return for lucrative mining contracts.

The South African government says they were training government forces and providing security.

According to South African Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, nearly 300 troops were stationed in CAR and they found themselves outnumbered as rebels took the capital Bangui on the weekend of 23-24 March. As well as the 13 dead, another 27 of them were injured.

‘Gallant fighters’

South Africa’s Mail and Guardian newspaper reported on the alleged business interests in an article on Thursday, prompting the African National Congress to threaten the newspaper with legal action.

It accused the paper of urinating on the graves of “gallant fighters who put their lives on the line in service of our country and our continent”.

“The ANC rejects with contempt the damaging and malicious claim by The Mail and Guardian that South African soldiers were sent to the Central African Republic to protect ANC business interests,” it said.

It added that “the ANC as an organisation does not have business interests in CAR”.

Meanwhile the opposition Democratic Alliance has said it will present a motion to parliament demanding the withdrawal of South African troops from CAR – although it is possible that no troops remain there.

Its leader Helen Zille said it looked as if the South Africans were in CAR to defend the regime.

The mission “was reportedly undertaken against expert military advice” and was “allegedly to protect the business interests of a politically connected elite, both in South Africa and the Central African Republic”, she said.

“If this is so, President Zuma’s position both as president of the republic and commander in chief of the armed forces, becomes untenable,” Ms Zille added.

“Kidnapped” Happy Sindane stoned to death

Image

Johannesburg – Happy Sindane was found dead in Tweefontein, next to Kwamhlanga, on Monday, Mpumalanga police said.

“It seems as if he was stoned to death,” Captain Leonard Hlathi said.

The motive for the killing was not known. No arrests had been made.

Sindane made headlines in 2003 when he alleged that he was a white boy who had been kidnapped by black people.

After a four-month inquiry to establish his identity the Bronkhorstspruit Children’s Court found in September 2003 that Sindane’s real name was Abbey Mziyaye, the son of a black domestic worker, Rina Mzayiya. The court found his father was probably a white man, Henry Nick, who employed Mzayiya in 1984. He was born that year. The whereabouts of both were unknown.

In 2004 Sindane was run over by a minibus and a car. When the accident occurred Sindane was lying in the road outside the Sinzanani Trust Village place of safety in Bronkhorstspruit, where he lived. It was not known why he was lying in the road.

Later that year Sindane appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for malicious damage to property. He was arrested in Marabastad, Pretoria, after he allegedly broke the windows of a taxi with stones.

In 2005 the charges were dropped after the taxi owner told the court he had repaired the damage himself and did not wish to proceed with the case. – Sapa

Chiefs close in on Q3

Image

Following their 3-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on the weekend, Kaizer Chiefs now find themselves on the cusp of claiming the third quarter of the PSL’s Q-Innovation concept.

The Amakhosi have already won one quarter, Q1, but missed out on the second one to this season’s surprise package, Platinum Stars.

Stuart Baxter’s side now look set to win Q3, needing just a point in their next game against Maritzburg United in order to take the prize money.

While the quarter could still, mathematically, be won by Moroka Swallows, SuperSport or Wits, in second, third and fourth respectively, Chiefs’ impressive goal difference makes it highly unlikely.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates sit in sixth place on the Q3 log, though could jump up to second if they win their game in hand.

AmaZulu find themselves in fifth place following their unbeaten start to 2013 while Black Leopards and Chippa United find themselves in the bottom two.

7 Must-know sex secrets

Image

Guys, here’s your chance to know the seven sex secrets women wish their partner knew:

A good talk is a great aphrodisiac

Many women find talk a great turn-on. For them, talking and feeling loved are very important. Good conversation during walks or while the couple is relaxing can be a great aphrodisiac. A man could tell his woman how much he loves her, which acts as a reassurance that he is with her mentally during those intimate moments.

Many women are anxious about their looks

For a couple that has been together for long, sometimes it is natural that women may feel that their partner may find them less alluring. Because of this some women undress only under the cover of darkness. Caring men can sense such anxieties. There is no need to lie and say she’s gorgeous if she isn’t, nor is there a need to say that she is not attractive anymore. One can always appreciate and praise what you do find attractive.

For a woman sex isn’t separate from rest of her life

On the other hand, men tend to compartmentalise, feeling that stressful aspects of life can be parked mentally and separated from sexual activity. Women need good feelings and experiences during the day to have satisfying sex. How her lover treats her out of bed, greatly influences her response in bed. Inattentiveness, harsh language, rude tones, hurtful words, and criticism can make it difficult for a woman to get involved, feel enthusiastic and be passionate during sex.

An orgasm is not a necessity

Many men feel that a good lover is one who can bring his woman to climactic sexual culmination. It is great to have such moments, but aren’t always essential. Many women feel pressure from partners and even from themselves to reach an orgasm. Sometimes instead of having orgasms, women prefer to engage in just foreplay.

Sex need not be a serious act

Playfulness is a great quality. Many men are far too serious about sex. They forget to laugh, be romantically mischievous, have fun. Playfulness and light-heartedness can make intimate moments enjoyable and relaxing. This takes performance pressure off from both partners.

Women cherish non-sexual touching and tenderness

Women love romance, cuddling, hand-holding and kissing. But many women complain that their men never do this except during foreplay. A woman should make her man realise the joy of touching. As you give him a relaxing massage and stroke his face and hair tenderly, he starts experiencing the joy of this kind of non-sexual touching. Tell your man what makes you feel loved.

Warm attention after sex is important

A woman’s need for tender moments goes beyond the actual lovemaking. Some women complain that men fall asleep immediately after the act. It is true that when a man is having sex, his endorphin level is very high. Almost immediately after ejaculation, he goes through a refractory phase where he loses his erection and all his systems gear down. In females this phase happens gradually. However, if you don’t like him falling asleep immediately, tell him without putting him down. Alternatively, let him sleep in your arms for a few minutes and gently wake him up afterwards.

How deadly CAR battle unfolded

Image

From March 22 until about 9pm on March 24, 200 South African soldiers fought a series of running battles outside Bangui in the Central African Republic (CAR) against 3 000 or more well-armed opponents. And they did so while the CAR Army (Faca) evaporated and the peacekeeping forces of the Central African Standby Brigade disappeared from the scene.

That series of running battles claimed 13 soldiers and 27 others were wounded, but the force retained its cohesion and was able to fall back from two separate engagement areas to its base and to hold it until their attackers gave up trying to overrun them and proposed a ceasefire and disengagement. By then the rebels had suffered as many as 500 casualties, based on estimates by officers with considerable operational experience and estimated by a number of NGOs in the country. In the process the soldiers fired off more than 12 000 rounds of 12.7mm machinegun ammunition, 288 rockets from 107mm rocket launchers and 800 bombs from 81mm mortars, and thousands of rounds from 7.62mm machineguns and 5.56mm rifles.
