Nedbank Preview: Wits v Kaizer Chiefs

Time: 20h15

With Wits having ousted Kaizer Chiefs from the Telkom Knockout earlier in the season, Chiefs will be looking to set the record straight in the Nedbank Cup, when the two sides go head-to-head at the Mbombela Stadium in the Round of Last 32.

However, former Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe, who is now playing for Wits, believes that this will be no easy game for either side. The Zimbabwean international told the Siya crew that both teams want to win a trophy this season, and this gives them an opportunity to do so.

“We both haven’t won a trophy yet and we would want to win the Nedbank Cup, so that fact makes it a tough encounter. I don’t think they will come with a revenge mind at all. They know this is a different game in a different cup, and even us, we know this is a different game. They are in good form but at times in cups such form doesn’t count. We want a win and we will get it,” Sweswe said.

Amakhosi captain and first choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said that they will not be disturbed by their rich vein of form in the league. He said that they want to be their on the last day of the season and lift the trophy.

“This is the only cup that we haven’t won before and this time around we have to go to the final and lift it. But we have to start tonight by winning against Wits. Of course it won’t be easy but we will want a win.

“No, it’s not about revenge. It is about us wanting to win and proceed in the competition,” the Bafana Bafana number one concluded.
